Playing so many tournaments in a row has caused her to suffer an injury. :( I hope it's not serious and she takes some time off to get away from tennis. Masha has had a disastrous finish to her 2006 season after a promising start. Makiri really needs Nigel Sears to run her career. I hope he has full control and can help our darling Maria.

I agree 100% Cat. I've been saying that for months. Its time for her Dad and whoever else to go home. And leave it too the professional (Sears) too sort out the mess.

I have no idea who arranges her tournie schedule, but they really have too change it for next year. She as played 7 or 8 weeks straight without a break!! And carrying an injury too boot.

I hope its "play a week, rest a week". Hingis will be doing that next year, and Maria and she have similar build.

If her ranking drops, it may allow her to play more 3 & 4's. A couple of those titles will surely lift her confidence. She is still listed for the Gaz de France, but given the way things are going, is there any point in her risking further injury?

I know Sears can pull her out of this slump. Just hope it all comes good December time.

Thanks Jim. it's just so sad Makiri is playing so poorly with no improvements in her game. :( I hope she can have a nice offseason and have some fun away from tennis. This girl really needs that. Then she can start over in December and start building for 2007 with a plan directed by a real tennis coach like Nigel Sears.

Makiri  Listen to what your body is telling you. It's time for you to take a break and rest your weary head. Go home, have some of your mom's home cooking, listen to your iPod, see your boyfriend, and just relax and enjoy life to it's fullest. Your whole life isn't all about tennis... ;)

Maria has definately had a summer from hell. I hope she isn't too discouraged & that the injury isn't too serious.

As for her schedule, Maria always seems to play her schedule wrong. She either plays too many tournaments in a row or too few. She also should be playing more Tier III's & IV's instead of losing in the 1st round of Tier I's all the time. Get the confidnece back and the game back before playing Tier I's. It is time for Maria to take charge of her career. Her dad is destroying her. Her disastorous play started when he took over coaching her and we all see the results of that. He has destroyed her confidence, ruined her game & his schedule has caused her to get injured. Great way to treat your daughter. He needs to go, permanetly

Wow House really let Maria's dad Yuri have it!  :smash: I guess Yuri Kirilenko saw Maria Sharapova's dad Yuri run Big Masha's career and thought he could do the same for Little Masha. He was wrong. And Makiri is not nearly as big, strong or tough as Big Masha who often overwhlems her opponents with power and intimidation. Makiri is a very different kind of player and cat (Russian Lynx
(Kirilenko):cat: and Siberan Tigress (Sharapova):cat::mad: :toothy:;)) than Big Masha is and her touch and feel game needs to be nurtured with smart tennis strategy and wise scheduling to enable Little Masha to get the most out of her excellent tennis ability. Unfortunately it hasn't happened yet. :( Masha should be a fixture in the top 20 but she's no where near that kind of player as the 2006 season ends.

I think your onto something here Cat. Seeing Sharapova's dad success has made Makiri's dad follow the same path. Unfortunately, Makiri and Masha are two completely different players. I also wonder if the reason why Makiri is entering so many tourneys is to collect on the appearance fees. You think this could be true???

Yes. It's late in the year with alot of stars missing in action and the tournaments might very well pay for Maria who is a spokesmodel for Stella McCartney's Adidas sportline to play their events. Maria's finances have to be the reason she keeps entering these tournaments one right after the other. But I'm not sure if Masha is a big enough star to command major appearnce fees like most top players do. Maria's parents obviously want her to play as much as possible and to keep her money in the family as much as possible. And I think that was the main reason why her dad took over running her career last year. But as House said all he did was run Makiri's career into the ground this year. :(

Hopefully Masha will be healthy and happy in 2007 so she can play well and show her real talent (top 5 hands, excellent versatility, great mobility, talented shotmaker) and start to fulfill her ability as a tennis player.

Are you 100% positive about the bolded parts? I don't want to jump the gun because I certainly haven't read much (if any) about Yuri being one of those typical "tennis dads".

I'm getting the impression that Makiri is the bread winner in the family and her parents are just living off the wealth of their daughter. If it's true, I think that's totally unfair to Makiri to put that kind of burden on their only child. In time she's going to move on and want to start a new life with someone else. They can't be clinging on her back forever. What are her parents going to do then???
