Maybe at a Tier I or II tournament. I think the odds are against them in the grand slams.

I would like to see them clashing claws again in the final, as the symbolic end of one period of womens game. But I don't see it, so many great players around there. Sisters are still injured or out of form, much hard work. Maybe a tier IV will do?
I am mean (again). :o

more importantly, will they ever play two tournies in a row/ will they ever play again?

IceHock
Oct 22nd, 2006, 01:17 AM
I just don't see the both of them being healthy at the same time, playing the same tourneys, and playing good, but their best bets are at a GS.

Oct 22nd, 2006, 01:22 AM
No. Neither will play much in 2007 and will both retire by the end of next year...

As much as I dislike both Serena and Venus. I miss them playing each other in the finals. Yes, they will come face to face with each other in a GS final once again, its only a matter of time.

that sounded mythotical

At the way things are looking, most likely not, but they are the queens of playing phenomenal tennis right when you think that they are down and out. We'll see. They basically have nowhere to go but up if they play regularly.

anyway i myself still positive about this. 2 years ago, if someone came right to me and said Mary Pierce will make another 2 slam finals and end up #5 in the world, i would laugh my ass off. so they might have a chance ;)

I can bet we may very well be seeing an all williams final in 2007 when both are injury free.

If they refuse to play, they can't meet eachother in a final.

Even when they were playing, the last time it even came close to happening was LA 2004, when Serena made the final and Venus lost in the semis.

I don't know
If they play well in 2007 and at least each one win another granslam (specially Wimbledon and the Us Open)I can see them in a GrandSlam final maybe in Australian Open 2008.

I hope!!

The odds are against any two people meeting in the final of any tournament.

Nonsense, nonsense, NONSENSE. When Serena and Venus were #1 and #2, many tennis insiders thought they would still be there today.

that's a really tough question! I really hope they are injury free and fully commit themselves to the Tour next year and it will be possible.

Jeff
Oct 22nd, 2006, 06:47 AM
There may or may not be. Those who say there never will be are probably the same people who would have said that Hingis would never return to tennis. At their level, it's up to them.

I hope it will happen, because I think that could be good for womens tennis and I think good ratings will be there. But it would be also great for the Williams fans I think.

I hope not. Even in their heyday - they were usually pretty poor matches.

I said first final, which happened in 1999. They didn't get to #1 until 2002. Anyway (off topic), here's a nice quote from Serena.

Savoy Magazine 2002
How do you want the game to be different after the Williams sisters leave it?

SERENA:The game is already different. People are hitting harder, running faster and groaning louder (she laughs). We’ve changed [the game] the way Martina Navratilova’s changed it. Physically.

What?! I mean, I agree that Venus has a chance against the HamBurglar, but do you really think that Serena can beat Ronald himself in the bottom half?

Not impossible, but unlikely. Don't like the odds of them both being match fit and healthy enough at the same time, to run thru a tourney that they both have entered. It wouldn't be as easy as in the old days. The top group of girls have caught up to them, and there is no fear factor anymore, even with the lower ranked girls..

The era of the Williams sisters is unfortunately over. They will never play against each other in a tournament final again. Neither will win a grand slam again.

It may not seem too likely right now, but I don't think you can ever rule the Williamses out.

MrSerenaWilliams
Oct 23rd, 2006, 04:10 PM
i think it will happen in Miami. It almost happened in 2005, they were just too close to each other. But it, just a matter of them both playing the same tourney, and playing well there, so....who knows?

Who knows ... where are they by the way. Not only have we not seen them on a court, we haven't even seen them at any parties or premieres.

LH2HBH
Oct 23rd, 2006, 05:13 PM
I don't think so - unlikely that they will both be in form long enough to reach a final, even if they were on opposite sides of the draw. Same goes for Tier 1. Anything lower they would probably not be in it.

Oct 23rd, 2006, 05:22 PM

Remember when the only question at a major was, "Which Williams will win?" It used to be a shock if both sisters didn't make the final; now it's a shock if they both show up. I hope they both feel like playing tennis in 2007, because IF they both set their minds to it and (more importantly) put in the work, everyone else will be playing for the #3 ranking. ;)
