Venus-Sometimes plays too much defense and relies on her court coverage too much. Also sometimes she hits the weakest second serves, I'd rather she double fault than just push the serve in for someone to blast past her.

Serena- Sometimes doesn't move her feet to get into position and shakes her head too much, even after hitting winners.

Serena's most active season was 2002, when she played in 13 tournaments. Even when she's not hurt, she doesn't play that much, and besides, she gets hurt so much because she doesn't keep herself in shape.

So all the other players who are hurt are not keeping themselves in shape either or is it only Serena. From what I remember Serena had knee surgery, then she turned her ankle....so how is that not keeping herself in shape. Isn't Chanda entering tournaments and pulling out like once a week and she too had knee surgery, the same with Kim, Mary, Amiele......a couple of years back Amiele was pulling out week in and week out did you make a big ado about that? Why is it that the focus is alway on the sisters. BTW, she has been playing 13 tournaments for years now why should she change it?

I focus on Venus and Serena because they're my favorite players and I want to see them play more often. Besides, I truly believe that if they played more often, their bodies would be better conditioned to handle the stress of playing WTA Tour-level tennis, which would make them less susceptible to injury. I don't expect them to play a Kuznetsova-type schedule, but I don't think 18-20 tournaments is too much to ask of them.

I've heard that too--I guess my argument would be that a good coach is at least part psychologist.

Or maybe a coach could talk her into seeing one. Honestly, I'm glad her and her mother are close, but I know from personal experience that it's hard to coach your own kids.

To get as far as Elena has gotten with that serve is remarkable, I'll give her that. If she had a consistent first serve (not a Brenda Schultz-McCarthy/Venus Williams hammer, mind you, but a mid-90's/low 100's at 60-65 percent), she'd be #1 right now. Not top five, top O-N-E.

darrin, she's just had a chronic knee injury since before and after the knee surgery. The ankle injury was as a result of the chronic knee problem. So, when does she get hurt so much?

Okay here are mine:
Venus/Serena = Chronic injuries - whatever you can do to fix the problem, please fix it.

Serena = Staying in top physical condition and lose some more weight. Another 10 pounds should do it.

Venus = Consistency in match play and work on that second serve. The forehand is looking better, but keep up the work on it.

Serena/Venus = Please play more when you heal.

The ankle injury was an accident in Rome; that could have happened to anybody. As far as the knee goes, Serena admitted in a pre-US Open interview that she didn't know how to exercise it properly after the surgery  , and that's one reason why she's been having problems with it three years later. She's citing a left wrist injury as the reason why she's not playing now. I had no idea that could be contagious, but I'm no medical expert.

So far, so good, my friend. Jonathan Cheechoo only has three goals (a natural hat trick, and we LOST that game), Joe Thornton has three less than that, and we're still 6-2. Once that line gets going, AND THEY WILL, the rest of the NHL will be :scared: !

Maybe she doesn't want to. From the time her career started she has been playing 12-13 tournaments nothing new for Serena, I don't know why you and your cohorts are mourning and complaining. It's not like she ever played 21 tournaments and then cut back to 13. When she did play her tournaments she won 90% of them until she came down with injuries.

Did it ever occur to you that they do not want to play 18-20 tournaments. As they get older they will incur injuries. When they were younger and played 12-13 tournaments they did not get injured so what you are saying for them to play 18-20 tournaments so they bodies can get use to it is just damn crazy. Look at the ones playing 18-20 tournaments today, everytime you look around someone is pulling out with an injury or retiring from a match. There's no way in hell V&S will be playing that many tournaments and they shouldn't. They are not robots. V&S said it already they will not be playing that many tournaments.

That's why so many people on this board think you're a crackpot, Olivia; you haven't the foggiest idea what you're talking about. Chris Evert, who was the most consistent winner of all time (.901 career winning percentage) won "only" 51 percent of the tournaments she entered (154 out of 303).

Shuai 1 - It's practically impossible to get any information about anything. Upcoming schedule, injury status, why a withdrawal happened, coaching, affiliation wtih CTA vs independence, etc, etc, etc. How about a blog, Shuai?

Shuai 2 - The seeming lack of a cohesive training program to improve her fitness and her game. 2006 was a setback; hoping she is working hard on a plan for 2007.

That's why so many people on this board think you're a crackpot, Olivia; you haven't the foggiest idea what you're talking about. Chris Evert, who was the most consistent winner of all time (.901 career winning percentage) won "only" 51 percent of the tournaments she entered (154 out of 303).

Don't be an ass. When Serena was playing back in 2002-3 every tournament she played in she was winning so what the hell are you talking about. S&V don't owe you shit apparently you think they do. If they don't want to play 18-20 tournaments that's their prerogative you sure don't hear them complaining so why should you. They do whatever is best for them and not what is best for you. Why do you find that so difficult to understand.

In reference to the wrist injury how dense can you be? how could you not know they were referring to Venus when they mentioned chronic wrist injury......When did Serena start having chronic wrist injury? Hell half these people can't tell the difference between V&S.

Honestly, I can't think of anything I "hate" about Maria Sharapova. There's probably things I don't like, but hate is a strong word.

Hmmm ... thinking ....

I don't like how sometimes she loses matches when she is as fierce as she can be. She always plays hard. She's a great competitor, but sometimes the fire is missing. That bothers me.

Though, I haven't seen that in a while. And I also don't know the reason for it, when it happens. So I am loathe to criticize her for it. She could just feel like crap that day.

I hate how Martina's lost her confidence, if only she believed in herself as much as I did she would own the tour. On the up side, first year back and she's still got time.

Don't be an ass. When Serena was playing back in 2002-3 every tournament she played in she was winning so what the hell are you talking about.
In 2002, Serena won eight of the 13 tournaments she entered. In 2003, she won four of seven. Sixty percent is very impressive, but she did not win every tournament. You do not know what you are talking about.
S&V don't owe you shit apparently you think they do. If they don't want to play 18-20 tournaments that's their prerogative you sure don't hear them complaining so why should you. They do whatever is best for them and not what is best for you. Why do you find that so difficult to understand.
Of course it's their prerogative to play as much or as little as they like, just as it's my prerogative to express my pleasure or displeasure about it. Does that sound fair to you? Besides, if you show me an athlete who thinks they don't owe their fans anything, then I'll show you an athlete who doesn't have many fans.
In reference to the wrist injury how dense can you be? how could you not know they were referring to Venus when they mentioned chronic wrist injury......When did Serena start having chronic wrist injury? Hell half these people can't tell the difference between V&S.

Are you trying to tell me the good people who run the Zurich tournament can't tell which Williams is which? I'm sorry, but I don't believe that.

Makiri- Not listening to her body and knowing when it has had enough playing tennis. Plus, not taking a significant break off the tour when she dearly needs too. She's been struggling mightily lately and now she's injured.

Actually the ankle injury happened in Charleston on the green clay. They showed it on the reality show. And, sorry I got it backward, the sprained ankle put more pressure on the sore knee, which in turn made the knee worse.

Her not knowing how to exercise a pre-existing injury is irrelevant to the argument. You stated that she's always getting injured since her dominance and I cited two injuries, one being a pre-existing injury and the other where she sprained her ankle on the green clay. Now, you cited another injury that I wasn't aware of, but that only makes three and it's been three years since her dominance and three injuries doesn't seem like a lot of injuries to me. Especially if one is a pre-existing injury.

About Lindsay: wrong. Funny, but W-R-O-N-G.
About Venus: her 1999-2000 form won't get it done in 2007. She's going to have to come much stronger than that.

HAHA - how can you say wrong? ;) it's just my opinion

ANYWAY - I liked Venus's game back them, it was simple and powerful.

Elena - Serve, ability to be overwhelmed by lower ranked players on occasions and to perform poorly in finals/against top players

I hate that I’m totally confused about who is Anastasia Myskina’s boyfriend?

Everybody tells me that Jurgen Melzer is Anastasia Myskina’s new boyfriend, and today a friend of mine emailed me this. She says that it’s from a Russian Newspaper:

Russian tennis star Anastacia Myskina acknowledged that she wanted to have a baby. The statement released by one of the most talented tennis players in the world means that Russia can lose Myskina in sport for several years. In her interview with the Tvoy Den (Your Day) newspaper, Anastasia Myskina said that she wanted to have a baby, but had not found the right man to help her fulfill her maternal wish. Myskina shared another secret of her private life and said that she had feelings towards a US athlete, James Blake. No one has been able to ask Blake’s opinion on the matter yet.

Anastasia Myskina rejected the rumours about her love affair with Russian hockey player Alexander Stepanov. “I know that many were talking about my relationship with Alexander Stepanov. However, we are only friends. I love hockey, I’m a fan of Ak Bars hockey team. There were also rumours about my affair with Austrian tennis player Jurgen Melzer. He is also a good friend of mine, nothing more,” Myskina said.

Does my friend make a joke with me? I mean is Anastasia only a friend of Melzer? Anastasia loves James Blake and she doesn’t love Melzer? I’m totally confused now. Today I also read about her former boyfriend is an old man (35 years of age or so), and Anastasia is still together with him every day, as he (Jens Gerlach) is her coach! And now I read this?
I think Anastasia is the most mysterious and strange idol I ever had in my whole life.
Compared with Anastasia, I think Paris Hilton is a pure nun.:tape:
So I hate one thing: The mess in Anastasia’s love life.

But I very much love Anastasia as a tennis player.:hearts:

Not that I hate... but I find quite funny the way Navy prepares to return service: she keeps "shaking" her body a little bit  exactly like the players in the videogame "SuperTennis" (an old tape from super-nintendo, haha)!
