Featuring Amelie Mauresmo, Justine Henin-Hardenne, Maria Sharapova and Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Actually JHH has the best chance at finishing #1, but Sharapova can still surprise everyone.

Race current standings:
1. Henin-Hardenne 3473
2. Mauresmo 2947
3. Sharapova 2802
4. Kuznetsova 2533

Kuznetsova can finish #1 only if she gets a WC for Linz and wins every tournament she plays until the end of the year, including Zurich, and every other contender for #1 doesn't play at the YEC or underperforms there. Looks pretty unlikely.

Mauresmo can finish #1 if she wins the YEC and Justine Henin-Hardenne finishes 4th of her group or doesn't show up there. Unlikely, right now.

Sharapova can finish #1 if Justine doesn't reach the YEC final, and if she wins Zurich, Linz and the YEC. If Justine doesn't show up at the YEC or finishes 4th of her group then Maria needs 752 pts until the end of the year to be #1 for sure.

JHH is #1 for sure if she reaches the YEC final but she just has to show up there to have a good shot at #1.

all signs point to justine.

maria if she had gone far in moscow (terrible injury :( ) might have had a shot but it looks like justine will take it.

Amelie is 526 points behind Justine and the winner of YEC gets 525 points, does that mean Amelie is out of the running?

does that mean Amelie is out of the running?

It depends, are the 75 points she picked up in Zurich in this total or not ?
If they are then I guess she is out. If not, then she has a good chance - I for one would die of surprise if Henin-H bothered going to the YEC

This weeks points have not been added, so Amelie is still in the running.

justine i'd say will get the accolade. it will be tough 4 the others 2 catch up with her. but then again the fact of maria winning zurich & linz where she is one the top 2 seeds at those events might work in her favour & then she could possibly win the YEC or get 2 the final providing that justine doens't reach the semis. amelie basically needs 2 win the YEC & hope from justine & maria 2 produce 4th round placings at the YEC will help her. but i doubt it.

so maria in my view has a much better chance 2 secure the the year end race no.1 than amelie.

Justine has the best odds compare to Mauresmo, Sharapova or Kuznetsova
