choke? I mean are you crazy ppl? both sets were close with Sveta leading in the first, but failing to close out on her own serve. Jelena led in the second but by only 1 break? What choking are you all talking about?

US Open repeat. Completely self-destructed on some close calls (although Kuznetsova did have a couple of good serves). Even left a ball that was clearly in and tried to argue it was out.

ppl also need to look at the match stats. Sveta won more points and hit more winners, so what choking are they talking about???? That Jankovic lost the tie-break? Big deal, players do lose a few points in a row . It's not like she lost 5 games in a row.

It's not that she lost, it's the manner in which she lost.

Jelena lead the tie break 6-3 and didn't win another point after that (in the TB) because she was off in cloud cuckoo land instead, arguing about the calls. It was a bad way to lose that set.

Jelena should have won that match as Svetlana was just exhausted in the second set and would have been in real trouble in a third set but Jelena started thinking too much and stopped playing. OK it wasn't quite as bad as the Henin match at the US Open but she is going to have to learn to cope with the mental aspect to beating top players. The match was there for the taking and she wasted it. As for that smash at 5-4 30-40 in the 2nd set, what a terrible shot! She hit it straight back to Kuz when she had all the time in the world to finish the point.

One of the best matches I have seen all year, the first set in particular was simply awesome.
Jelena Jankovic: a lovely game, an e.n.t.e.r.t.a.i.n.e.r :worship: but has her game got that bit extra to close out big matches against the top 5 players? I'm not sure. Sveta's got it - she proved it today.

Why do you hate Martina? According to her blog, just yesterday she had friendly chit-chat with Igor about girly things like make-up.

The conversation probably went something like this ...

"Sveta, you're homely. You need to wear make-up." :tape:

Jelena won 1st set 7-6(5) !!! ... that Sveta "winner" is clearly out!!! - but not for :smash: mr. Linesman :retard: ... That is crucial moment in whole match - after miss that (3rd) set point Jeca lose 1st set...

I never supported Jelena in past for her protest against judges, but fact is that today they helped Sveta to win first set!

Yes, the quality was excellent at times.

Jelena has the game, just not always the mental strength needed I fear. It has at least improved though. I was pleased to see her regroup after the 1st set which was at least a step up from the complete mental breakdown of the US Open.

As they say though, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Jelena's had two tough lessons now. I really hope now she works on controlling those emotions and cutting down on arguments with the court officials, even if they are wrong.

The concentration is lacking in certain areas of her game, namely finishing off her opponent.

After a great six months the next six will almost surely cement Jelena firmly into the top ten.

Good luck to Kuznetsova for the rest of the tournament.

She better fix her mental side or it will keep Jankovic from living up to her potential in the Slams. She has been easily one of the top 3 players since her turnaround yet doesn't have a title to show for it. She was beating Henin pretty handily at the Open and would have given Sharapova fits like she did Kuznetsova at the Open, but ultimately she freezes up.

After Hingis won her second round without too much trouble on Wednesday, Kuznetsova had to dig deep to get past Jelena Jankovic, 76(6) 75, in just over two hours. Jankovic certainly had her opportunities but couldn't capitalize. The Serb led 6-3 in the tie-break and gave away three set points. She disputed several line calls, which might have contributed to her mental distraction. She also led 5-3 in the second set before losing the last four games.

"It was a very tough match today," Kuznetsova said. "I know how well she can play now since the US Open and we've played three times in the last few weeks. Today I took my chances very well in the first and second sets. She did not and that was the difference. I played very well when I had the set points against me and she got a little distracted when she called the referee onto the court. I know this can happen sometimes with her and I'm used to it."

Bad calls are just a part of tennis, she needs to complain less when she's in a tight situation. Its like she thinks theres a massive conspiracy against her, that all the lines people have it in for her and want her to lose. She also could've won her us open semi if she didn't let bad calls get to her and unfortunately she's not learning from her mistakes
