She's blown this match now and is about to tank the third blaming the calls (that have been poor ALL week).

I've just switched this match on, has it been on from the beginning? Eurosport didn't mention it

Umgh Whatever, I give it to Jelena she is playing top notch, she is such a talented girl, perhaps one of the most talented of her generation.
But I don't like her attitude one bit, every match she loses, every three set battle, its someone's fault she loses concentration. How many matches now, Kim, Justine, Pironkova, etc. There is always something, wheter its a line judge, or a player who is supposedly distracting her, or someone's nationality, there is always a problem, she is always complaining and always making drama. Grow up and play the game, your a talented girl, the match is in your hands win it and stop whining like a baby, its a tennis match not the Oscars.
By the way nice win Kim, she deserved it;) Champ's heart.

I really can't stand Jelena at all. She's such a **** out on court. Can she be a little more self-absorbed? Wiping just her face after every game, and not just wiping, dabing her face. Sorry Jelena, the line judges aren't losing this match for you. Your luck has run out and a real champion, not a pretender, is going to win this tournament.

What luck? She actually had to beat 3 top 10 players en route to the final?
How's that lucky? Maybe try and compare Kim's and Elena's draw at Sydney and who was the lucky one in this case?

Um, who else does that? This isn't a beauty contest (something she'd lose anyway). Who dabs their face like that? Wipe your face with two swipes. No need to make sure that every little spot needs to be perfect. And she walks around like a little princess. She's clearly a bit conceeded. And a big drama queen at that.

Timing the ball like that, that's lucky. Not even Davenport times the ball like that. She's good, but not that good. She's in a zone and about to come out of it.

I have no problem with Kim and her draw. That was not my point, and you should have known it. ;) The point was Elena's supposed luck, and in this case Kim obviously had the easier draw, which often happens to one or the other player.
BTW, Kim can play top 10 player as soon as QF, and it's the final now, and still no top 10 player. :p

Here's the thing. When you are a streaky player like Jelena, anytime you time the ball that well, you are in a zone and playing outside of your normal abilities. I've had that happen, but after it I feel as though that I can't do that on a consistent basis. That's whats happening to Jelena atm and is slowly coming out of it.

Someone who is a proven winner. Ie Serena and Venus. They didn't start doing that until that were champions and were tennis legends. Jelena is nothing and shouldn't be acting like she is a champion when she isn't.

So I was right, you are bitter ... you say it above, but then you say Nah. Make up your mind. It's clear you have no idea what you are talking about because you are contradicting yourself in two sentences

How typical that you state when a William Sister loses it's because they are out of form, got nothing to do with the other player. So, so typical. Well you better get used to it, because you are gonna end up hating most of the top 20 in the next few weeks :haha:

Well, didn't Venus beat Jelena in the qtrs. of Rome in 2006? Then she lost in three tight sets where she had sets points in the first set. So even at Venus' worst, she can still beat Jelena. And we'll see what kind of place she goes down in history.

Jan 12th, 2007, 11:22 AM
I am purely stating my opinions here. And I wasn't contridicting myself. I'm not bitter that she won, I'm bitter that she cheated, that's all. Should I outline my opinions?

I think that Jelena loves her gamesmanship

I think that she's a streaky player that was in a zone these last two weeks until the final set today

I just think that Jelena's ridculous with her on-court behavior

K-Dog

Amazing isn't it?

Whomever beats your "gals" are either "cheats" or "playing the game of their life" or "because the gals are injured and not on form". Now who's got bad gamesmanship?

Streaky player eh? How can someone be that streaky for over 6 months? Well a streaky player beat both "gals" :haha:, that says a lot for the gals doesn't it? Oh I forgot, they weren't on form

Her on court behaviour is very entertaining - it's better than bullying a player after they've beaten you or trying to hit that player with a volley ... I think you know what I'm talking about :)

Well, when one puts their hand up and then doesn't admit it, yeah I guess they are cheating. Or hitting Serena with a ball on a change over. Or quick serving in a match (juniors do that, not pros). And if you think when watching Venus at Wimby (the defending champ at the time), or just like at the appearance of Serena in LA, you can tell they are out-of-form. Just like when Justine lost to Maria in Miami in 2005. Justine was out-of-form. Sharapova is not nearly as good as Justine on most days and most surfaces.

Do we remember Jelena Dokic (must have something to do with the name)? She was streaky as heck for a couple of years, but beat good players. When you start of a season 1-10 and then play well, you are streaky.

And to be honest, if Venus and Serena play their games well, they always win. That can't be said of the rest of the tour. When they don't, they lose most of the times. The match is in their hands. They are still the most dangerous and most powerful players on the tour. Everyone knows that an on-form Williams sister is almost impossible to beat.

i'm a big fan of jelena, but she does need to stop with her complaining about calls. she had some bad calls in the match, but arguing over them just distracts her. it might not be as crucial against a lower ranked player, but against a top player it is always going to work against her, as her opponent is expericienced and has time to recover and focus, whereas all jelena focuses on is the bad call. i know its only cos she wants to win, but if she relaxed more on court she could keep more focus, and it might help alleviate the double faults in critical moments

^^

Ditto. I think she's fantastic to watch, but it's such a waste of energy arguing over so many line calls, regardless of whether she thinks she has been screwed over or not. Her lack of composure by arguing needlessly with the ump cost her so dear in that USO semi. With that match and this, I hope she can learn to control her emotions a skill which I hope will come with experience.
