You never hear anything about the bryan brothers or the black brothers, whats up with that? Why dont they get any media attention?

I think if the sisters were ranked 100 and 101 no one would even care about them or their matches.

I mean in the juniors the bryan brohters DEFAULTED to each other in the same tournament all the time.

It appears impossible for a Williams fan to ever be happy.

You're kidding, right? My life is fantastic I have no reason to be unhappy. I'm posing a question, if you dont have an anwer, my suggestion is for you to move on to another thread where you can contribute constructively instead of trolling.

I think you answered your own question cybel. If the Williams sisters were ranked in the 100's they wouldn't be as visible, their success wouldn't be nearly as remarkable and they wouldn't be beating nearly as many of other's faves...;)

They do get some flack for their less than remarkable performances against each other only because everyone wants to see them at their best against each other. It would be spectacular.

By and by, if you are a Williams fan, you really don't have much to complain about...;)

Yeah, its because they're so good and so prominent, and so famous, and so popular ... etc..

no one would give a toss if they were in the 100s - it's true

ah okay I think I'm going to adopt that philosophy that the jen deners have cooked up, "that they wouldn't be critizing the sisters if they weren't beating their favorites." Hmm sounds good to me.

You've answered your own question about where they are ranked in the world is the answer but also its the story about 2 sisters from a bad part of LA getting taught tennis by their father who didn't know how to play!

And also the fact they didn't play juniors and don't follow the normal ways of making it in tennis!

cybel: Instead of making sarcastic remarks about legitimate answers to you question..why don't you give your opinion? I'll be shuddering in anticipation.

What is the point in comparing them to the Bryans, the Blacks, the Sanchez's, or the Maleevas.

More accurately, imagine Hewitt and Safin as brothers. People would demand they beat the crap out of each other.

After two sets of the men's final, Costa had a 6-1, 6-0 lead over Juan Carlos Ferrero. Said one member of the press corps: "If they were brothers instead of friends, we would have said the fix was in."

i think that says it all.

The answer is simple.

Most other tennis siblings, had rather disparate skills. Chris and her sister, John and Patrick McEnroe. When one is near the top and the other is 30th or 40th, there is not much drama.

Venus and Serena, however, are both top ten players for the last four years, and in the last year or so threaten to dominate the larger high purse tourneys. They were the money leaders in 2001, in tourney winnings, despite Serena hovering around #9 almost all year. She won or placed well the right tourneys to take home the cash. Venus did this also.

Their ethenticity is a factor also, don't kid yourself.

because they dominate

because they will continue to do so

bec they get paid wads and wads of endorsement $$

bec their rivalry is non-existent and yet there is a very good chance they will keep meeting each other in the finals which may have a negative impact on the WTA, like it or not (their matches will increasingly become a tough-sell)

and as VS Fan says, bec of their ethnicity.

How about the Serra Zaneti sisters?? Nobody talks about them either! :p I think it is because of all those things others have said but I think their ethnicity has played a bigger part in the negativity that surrounds them than a lot of people are willing to admit.

Because other siblings don't play each other in finals!!

Also possibly because mostly people don't expect briliant performances from the sibs currently on the tour so they don't feel let down if they don't get one.

well, the fact that they are the top players in tennis is one thing. and the other thing is that most people's siblings are not nearly as good as they are. for example: chris evert and john mcenroe were at the peaks of the careers when they had to play their siblings - and they destroyed them. probably the closest in ability are the serra-zanettis, but then, see my first point.

I thought it was pretty damn obvious.

They are the best players right now, and before that were potentially the best.

If other siblings were the same way, they'd get the attention too.

Why did Martina Hingis get so much grief for being unale to win another GS title?

Because she was ranked #1.

The best are held to a higher standard.

Yeah disposable and Becca hit it right on the head. As for the Serra-Zanetti's their rivalry is even more nonexistent so what would be the point?

If they were even near the calibur of players Venus and Serena, they would be talked about to.

The fact is, the Williams lasses are and will be the most famous family rivalry we have seen.

Swiss sisters Myriam and Daniela Casanova are talented but I don't think either of them will have the flamboyance or popularity their American counterparts have right now.

And by the way Cybelle as for "flack," Jennifer get more of that and plenty then the sisters so perhaps you needed to choose another word.

Daniela Casanova is older than Myriam but she is 10 standards lower than her and she will be lucky to crack top 200.

Myriam is already be playing on another level.

As for the Williams, they are the best.

and to be the Best you have to beat the Rest and they do it better than any others right now.
