Exhaustion Forcing Sanchez-Vicario Out of Wimbledon

.c The Associated Press

WIMBLEDON, England (June 10) -- Two-time Wimbledon finalist Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario withdrew from the grass-court championships Monday, citing "extreme exhaustion.''

The Spaniard lost to Steffi Graf in the 1995 and 1996 finals. Last year, she was eliminated in the second round by American Lilia Osterloh.

Sanchez-Vicario, formerly ranked No. 1 in the world, lost in the first round of this month's French Open to compatriot Marta Marrero.

Sanchez-Vicario, 30, is ranked 31st in the world and was likely to have been among the 32 seeds at Wimbledon.

Martina Hingis, the champion in 1997, withdrew from Wimbledon last week after undergoing surgery last month to repair ligaments in her left ankle.

I think this is good for her. She will take a much needed Sabbatical, and can get more focused. She will prolly play at the US open though.

oh no, this can not be true. if it is, then  she will def. fall in the ranks with like 30 some points coming off and won't be able to make any of that up. she is really taking a turn for the worse.

my biggest fear is that she may get too used to the comfort at home and not want to come back on tour. i sure hope that doesn't happen.

and what about doubles with dani? they'll def. need wimby to stay in the top 8 for the race.

I don't think she will loose that much in points. She only has 1st round points to defend! Rest up Arantxa!!!! No Hingis, No Arantxa, possibly no Lindsay. :(
