View Full Version : Will Venus defend her Wimbledon Crown?

Jun 10th, 2002, 09:33 PM
I think she will.

I know Serena is playing much better tennis than her right now, but I have a feeling that Venus will show little sister that shes still around at Wimbledon.

Venus has a better net game than Serena :)

Jun 10th, 2002, 10:21 PM
I think she will :)

And Venus will be the first woman since Steffi Graf (1991-1993) , who will win Wimbledon 3 times in a row !:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Don't know maybe Anne Keothavong will upset her in the 1st round LMAO!

Jun 10th, 2002, 11:19 PM

I don't think Venus will win but she obviously can. LOL. I am hoping that Monica finally plays great tennis at Wimbledon and wins it. If I had to bet money, I would bet on Venus or Serena (it's a toss up). The 2nd choice would be Monica, and the third would be Capriati. I don't see any other players winning the title.

Venus just doesn't have the "game" to win Wimbledon. She can't play on grass!

Jun 15th, 2002, 02:11 AM
:D You're absolutely right, Amanda. HaHaHahaha. Venus doesn't have a game suited for "Grass"!! "No net game, and awful "groundies".:D :D :D :D She'll really have to get "faster" if she expects to do well at Wimby!!!

Venus will win Wimbledon for the 3rd straight time! :D

Jun 15th, 2002, 02:49 AM
no she won't. Clarisa Fernandez will beat her...

Jun 15th, 2002, 03:11 AM
VENUS will not let Shaq and Kobe be the only ones to threepeat!
Look out little sis. :)

Jun 15th, 2002, 03:29 AM
Go Venus....Kick some butt to complete the Ve-peat!

Jun 15th, 2002, 08:40 AM
Venus won't defend. She's no longer a threat on the tour. I think Serena will win it, though. Serena has always been the far superior player but only now she is starting to fulfill her full potential.

Jun 15th, 2002, 08:59 AM
Serena has been practicing millions of times with big SIS, so now that she has the mental edge, she'll definetely beat Venus again.

Venus can do it. Go Venus! :bounce:

Jun 15th, 2002, 05:06 PM
Like the Lakers Venus will threepeat and serena will be runner -up. All Williams all the time

Jun 15th, 2002, 05:27 PM
not likely to happen...

Jun 15th, 2002, 05:29 PM
It is Venus' to win, but she has to serve better. I was watching her semi and final matches. She served poorly in both. If Venus had served better, lil Sis may have been in trouble. It does not matter how hard you hit it, if you don't get it over the net and into the box.

Jun 15th, 2002, 05:39 PM
her chances are very little, because it's hard tournament to win it,
and if she reach the with Serena her father will tell her to lose.

Jun 15th, 2002, 06:18 PM
I think Serena will win it this year, but if she doesn't, I'm sure it will be Venus.

I don't think Venus has a better grass game than Serena AT ALL, look at her matches in 2000 and 2001.

Pretty much in 2000 she was playing flawless tennis until the semi's where she had to play Venus and she was obviousley overcome with nerves whcih lead to sloppy play.

Last year she breezed through to the quarters, but in that match that she SHOULD HAVE WON, she got tight and she was sick, and she ended up loosing.

So basically Serena's losses at Wimbeldon have been more mental than physical, but now we know that she doesn't have that problem anymore. I think she wants Wimbeldon the most out of all the slams, and with the kind of ball she's playing, im betting on her.

However, Venus seems really comfortable here, having won twice in a row, and if she can get her serve going, she is obviousley also a favourite.

I think that it's pretty obvious right now that the winner of the Wimbledon title will have the last name Williams. I give the edge to Venus, since she is thirsty to defend her title and get her first slam of the season. If Venus' game is on, she is unbeatable...even by Serena. If Serena is on and Venus is having trouble with her serves, then I think that the title will go to Serena. But in either case, it will be a Williams. I'd love for Monica to do well, but I don't think that she is going to have the speed and mobility. I don't think that Jennifer can mentally (or physically) get past either Venus or Serena. Look at the records. Venus and Serena both have Jenn's number. Kim has been playing inconsistent tennis (c'mon Kim...recover fully and get your game up the level of your full potential!) and Justine can do well, but I don't think that this is going to be her year yet. But she will definitely be carrying some Grand Slam trophies in the future.

So really, what are the options?

Venus or Serena.

Pick: Venus

Serena will win :)

Jun 15th, 2002, 10:31 PM
being number one is making her complacent and anyway she is getting old and the italian boyfriend wants her to be around him cheering the italian team to another soccer world cup victory!

Jun 15th, 2002, 10:35 PM
I agree that it looks very likely that a Williams will win. In fact, I predict another all-Williams final. Of course, those matches are always toss-ups so there's no way of predicting!

Jun 15th, 2002, 11:41 PM
Yeah, I agree. Another Williams final is very likely. But I think that Venus is hungry to three-peat!

Jun 15th, 2002, 11:50 PM
Venus always plays well at Wimbledon, so I give her a great chance at defending. Serena could be a problem, but at Wimbledon Venus has a big mental edge over her.

I think Venus will win. She's by far the best grass-court player out there.
