Lucic has used up all her md wc's so not her.

Maybe they are hoping Aranxta changes her mind, or Lindsay withdrawls and then thnks she made a mistake?

Maybe Lina K?

Lina:sad: horrible injury:(

Its good to see that Rachel Viollet is getting a main draw wildcard, they only gave her a qualies on last year despite the fact she's been British No.3 or 4 for much of the past year. And of course Jane definately deserves one, she's been playing well.

Its great to see Natasha back though! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
Welcome back Natasha:wavey:

Anna K getting a WC? Her ranking is enough to reach the main draw, Why organisers would give her one?

My sentiments exactly xcrtbckhnd. Best news I've heard all week.

GO NATASHA!!!

I know the odds of Tash winning both the singles title and the doubles with Martina N are about a million to one, but at least I can dream about it for the next two weeks.

did the Scud get one?

I don't think she has much of a chance to win the singles, but I do think with a decent draw, she could win a few rounds and probably even pull an upset on a player seeded 9-32. I'll be looking for her name first when the draw comes out!!!! GO GIRL!!!!

thanks K-fan! i'm just glad he got it. not sure he would have gotten in otherwise.

of course everyone's terrified that he might pull another Goran!

obviously you don't follow the challengers, and being from America you don't know any of the British players...they are mostly younger British players.

btw, darn that Mark got a WC!

Lucie, Julie and Rachel would like to be considered "as young" ;)

Lol@TBE...I think Lucie is what...28?:o and Julie is 26...I dunno about Rachel though:confused:

Inky, why don't you want Mark to have a wc?

TheBoiledEgg
Jun 11th, 2002, 05:24 AM
Rachel is very close to 30 so its a waste of a WC, might as well as give it to Sue Barker or Wade

I'm so happy for Natasha, I'm surprised they gave her a wc though as she has no plans to play singles anywhere else this year :bounce:

Wooohoo! Natasha! :bounce:

AlexSydney - of course she deserves a wildcard. She's much more deserving than players like Ahl and Pullin who aren't even young British prospects. With a kind draw she might win a match or two.

Monica_Rules

Um Julie and Lucie are the british number 1 and 2 they totally deserve their wildcards they have both played very well this year with some great results.

Natasha last time at wimbledon stuck the finger up at the crows so does she deserve it?

I believe she does but she hasn't looked like making any movbe into singles this year untill now!

DutchieGirl
Jun 11th, 2002, 03:43 PM
lol TBE, notice I said MOSTLY young British players... ;)

I didn't think Lucie was THAT old though... she isn't really 28 is she?

K-fan... I don't like Mark (haven't really from the start)... and now that he got a WC, it means I'll probably have to watch him play coz Aussie tv will show Aussie matches when they can, which means probably missing out on seeing someone I might like to see play! ;)

DutchieGirl
Jun 11th, 2002, 03:48 PM
Christ! I just checked, and Lucie is nearly 28! :o She doesn't look that old!

I don't object to the young British players getting wildcards, but once players are past 25 or so like Pullin and Ahl, I think if they can't get into the maindraw from their ranking they shouldn't just automatically get a maindraw WC. Natasha is a former semifinalist here and one of the most entertaining players to watch. When it comes down to it, only diehard patriots would really want to watch mediocre British players in place of her.

Monica_Rules
Jun 11th, 2002, 06:12 PM
Well Julie just beat Widjaja 6-3 6-2 so i think she deserves her place in the maindraw!:p

I really think that Pullin & Ahl should be playing qualies. WCs should be reserved for _young_ home players needing a helping hand and/or players returning from injury.

I agree that the WCs should be given to young, up and coming players. However, this theory works mainly in the U.S., where a lot of our up and coming players can make it into the qualies based on their ranking, or just miss the qualy cut. GB needs to give out WC's to their top players because no woman player can make it into the main draw based on their rankings. Can you imagine if they give WC's to the top 7 Brit women under 21. It would be a joke! People like Baltacha and Keovathong essentially get raped of their pride on the upper echelons of the tour. Can you imagine going 2 notches lower than them? Pullin and Ahl more than deserve their WC's since they ARE womens tennis in Great Britain. Sorry if I come across as ignorant with this statement, but its just my opinion on the subject
