View Full Version : Next player into top ten

Volcana

Sandrine Testud is ranked #10. She's 1100 points behind Justine Henin, who's having better results this year, RG not withstanding.
I don't see Sandrine moving up anytime soon.
Sandrine is 400 points ahead of her closest pursuer, Mauresmo.

3286 09 J.HENIN

2181 10 S.TESTUD

1784 11 A.MAURESMO
1692 12 D.HANTUCHOVA
1662 13 S.FARINA-ELIA
1545 14 E.DEMENTIEVA
1402 15 M.SHAUGHNESSY

Question 1) Will Sandrine be the next player to drop OUT of the top ten? Remember, Lindsay and Martina may not return for a while. If they both miss the USOpen, either could drop out first.

Question 2) Who's the next player to move INTO the top ten?

Question 3) WHEN will the next player to move INTO the top ten?

NOTE: Only Dementieva and Shaughnessy Mauresmo have PROVEN they can get into the top ten. (Pierce, Rubin, Majoli, Schnyder are all also young enough, and once were top ten.)

Volcana - has Shaughnessy ever been top 10? I thought her highest was #11 - do you mean Amelie?

Anyway, I say that it all depends on Amelie and that scatterbrain of hers. She's got very little to defend for the rest of the year, and has proved (albeit intermittently) that she has enough game to be top 5, if not top 3, and a genuine contender at each Slam. She's shown us very little of that this year, but if it returns, she'll displace Sandrine by the US Open.
Having said that, I can't see it returning that quick. Daniela H has very little to defend as well, and seems to be playing consistently well right now (if not consistently brilliantly - that will come). She could go a long way at Wimbledon. I expect her to be top 10 by the end of the year.
I have no idea about the maths involved if Lindsay and Martina both skip the US Open, but it seems that they could certainly fall below Sandrine. As for Justine, too many people have too many points coming off for her to be in serious danger.

Leaving aside the currently hapless Anna K my favourite players are Amelie and Daniela. They are currently ranked 11 and 12. Aaargh. I want them both in the top 10.

Amelie should be a top 5 player, but she still seems in some kind of mental wilderness. I expect Daniela may prove to be just as good or even better, but it's early days.

I want Amelie back in the top 10 first. Dani can wait her turn. I'm sure one of them will do it by the end of the year. I don't think there's room for both (hmmm, that depends a lot on Lindsay and Marti's injuries). I can't see any other player getting there before them.

I'd say Amelie... I'm not really a fan, but her results are so frustrating-considering how talented she is... She needs to forget that hard courts are not her favourite this summer :P

DANIELA! she will go farther than Amelie at Wimby this year, and will prolly be in the TOP 10 very soon (especially with Martina Hingis and Lindsay Davenport SIDELINED and Sandrine Testud never playing well at the Slams).

Justine isn't #9? With Lindsay and Martina out, Sandrine *could* move higher in the rankings.

I'd say Daniela as she has hardly anything to defend untill indoor season!

But Amelie might be the next one

I say Amelie. She's starting to get her game back together, and she finally stopped that down hill slide at Rome. Granted her RG performance could have been better, but her mental block is more to blame.

She is much fitter this year, and I expect good results from her this summer.

Daniela could break in as well, she has very little to defend and is starting to get her game together, and she loves grass.

Looking at the grass and hardcourt season, I would say that Daniela will benefit the most. She prefers fast surfaces and hardly has anything to defend.

I voted for Elena, as she too has nothing much to defend, but grass is not good for her. Hardcourts suit Elena's game the best and (US 00) she too hardly has anything to defend. She can easily overtake Farina-Elia, Shaugnessy and Mauresmo.

Amelie doesn't like grass, and even though she says hardcourts are her fav surface, she hasn't really done anything noteworthy on it.

So I think Daniela will have the most chance, but I have faith that Elena could step it up and go for broke.

It could be Momo or Daniela. I'd give a slight edge to Lil V cause she's better on grass.

Amelie and Daniela :)

Also behind I'd say Anastasia Myskina, Clarisa Fernandez to remain in top 20.

I think the top 20 will be very different at the end of this season.

No way Shaughnessy. She's about to drop like a rock. Could easily be any one of the other 4, but my money is on Amelie.

Daniela already has her spot reserved in the top ten. Momo should have secured her spot during claycourt season. Now as we enter the grass and hardcourt tourneys Lil V will show that she belongs.

Hi Venus :wavey:
Hi Serena :wavey:
Hi Daniela :wavey:

Your statistics are quite compelling, cybelle. So does that mean a vote for Amelie or a vote for Daniela?

1) Dani Hantuchova - she has few points to defend and should be good on grass
2) Amelie M - few points to defend but not good on grass
3) Silvia - few points to defend but not too good on grass
The good point is that last year Silvia rached the 3rd round at Wimbledon, but she lost in the 1st round at US Open, so she could pick up extra points in London and surely in NY.

I doubt Elena can get close to the top 10 the way she is playing, forget about Shaughnessy.

It will all depend on Martina and Lindsay health. I do not see Sandrine dropping so many points.

Think it'l be Daniela .....Grass, Hardcourts and indoors all suit her game.
