I know that this is a WTA and not an ATP-board, still some sad news:

German news says that Thommy Haas' parents are seriously injured due to a motorcycle accident in Florida. His father seems to be in a really bad condition. They say that it's not sure that he will survive...

Poor Thommy, all the best to you and your parents!

Apparently his dad, Peter Haas, has been in a coma since Saturday. He lost a great deal of blood and severely injured his legs. His mother, Brigitte, is in intensive care but improving.

An older lady in a Toyota Camry, driving in the oppostite direction, suddenly turned left into their lane. They were riding a Harley Davidson and crashed right into the car at high speed. None of them wore helmets.

They are being treated in St. Petersburg, FL.

Tragic.

An update:

Crash leaves tennis star's father in critical condition

By JENNIFER SULLIVAN
posted 06/11/02

The father of German tennis star Tommy Haas remained in critical condition Monday at a St. Petersburg hospital after a motorcycle crash in Sarasota that also injured Haas' mother.

Peter Haas, 54, suffered road rash, broken bones and severe leg injuries Saturday after the Harley-Davidson he was driving crashed on North Tamiami Trail near the Ringling School of Art and Design. A Toyota plowed into the Harley, which belongs to Tommy Haas, at about 1 p.m.

Tommy Haas' publicist, Linda Dozoretz, said the tennis player hasn't decided yet if he'll pull out of playing in Wimbledon later this month.

"It certainly hasn't come up whether he's playing in Wimbledon," Dozoretz said. "I don't think they've thought about it."

Haas, 24, has trained at the Bollettieri Sports Academy in Bradenton for more than a decade. He is ranked No. 7 in the ATP Champions Race.

Peter Haas and his wife, Brigitte, were not wearing helmets when 73-year-old George Vlachos crossed in front of them as he turned into the parking lot of a Subway restaurant.

Brigitte Haas, also 54, was in fair condition.

The German couple were visiting their son at his Bradenton home when the crash happened. Since the crash, Tommy Haas and his sisters, Karin and Sabine, have spent nearly all of their time with their parents at Bayfront Medical Center, Dozoretz said.

Police are investigating the crash to determine whether anyone should be charged.

That is really shocking and I really hope they make a recovery.

This sounds really corny but it does make you realise just how unimportant tennis is.

Tommy Haas Grateful for Good Wishes
The German's parents were involved in a motorcycle accident in Florida.

************************
Tennis pro Tommy Haas and his sisters, Karin and Sabine, are very grateful for the outpouring of good wishes for their parents, Peter and Brigitte Haas, who were hit by a car while on a motorcycle here Saturday.

Peter Haas is in critical condition, and Brigitte Haas is in fair condition with a number of broken bones. Both will remain hospitalized at a local hospital for indefinite periods of time.

"Their health problems are very serious, and we thank people for their prayers and thoughts for our family," Haas said. "The aim is for them to be able to thank everyone themselves eventually; but now all energies must be focused on their medical care, and our family needs privacy," the 24-year-old German star added.

Haas is the No. 3-ranked men's professional tennis player in the
world. He lives and trains in Bradenton, and his parents,
both 54, were visiting from their home in Germany.
******************************

Good Luck Tommy...........and wish your parents well........;)

I guess right now, "no news" is good news.
I hope Tommy's parents will continue to recover, and that Tommy and his family will be able to get through this.
