View Full Version : Williams fans: Something to think about

There have been a couple of threads created by non-Williams fans such as "Serena kicked Venus' butt" and "Serena is the better sister as Richard Williams had stated. " It's ironic in that the last two seasons when Venus was dominating everyone the popular opinions wer Serena was the weaker of the sisters, she won't be able to establish Venus success, and she will never match Venus' mental strength.

I just can't help but think some people are trying to stir up conflict and division among the Williams fan base. The strongest defense for Serena and Venus against their detractors have always been the unity among a Serena fan, Venus fan, or Venus and Serena fan to dispel or question an unsubstantiated negative opinion or view concerning the words, actions, or tennis game of either sister.

Yes, its all a big conspiracy.

We are all conspiring to run "Williams fans" off the board.

So far its been totally uneffective, but in time our plan shall unfold.

I always knew that serena was more talented but her head wasn't there!

But she seems to have found it!

Topspin, if Venus and Serena had Mashona Washington's results and ranking no one (even people on this board) would care. Case closed.

P.S. Becca, it's INeffective...unless the say UNeffective in the Great White North. :p

Beige - I could go through your posts and correct spelling or grammar, as I could mine.

However, I have a life.

I'd also like to add, that I've seen more threads and posts dedicated to "Williams Fans - dont repond! They are all out to get us", then I have posts and threads from the so called evil-doers who are pissing you off.

What is with people clinging to a fan base anyhow?

If someone made a post about how all Ferrero fans were cold fish and pillow biters :p I think I'd laugh - and do something like write "I LOVE COLD FISH" in my signature.

I dont know, maybe thats just me :p

While I'm on the topic, whats with the gloating from fan bases?

I'm not even talking about Willie fans, I mean from everyone.

The whole idea of "my player beat your player so I'm better" is rather sad.

I mean, can't people accomplish stuff in their own lives, instead of bragging about what someone else did?

When Ferrero beat Agassi or Safin I didn't feel the need to post about how I'm better than their fans, cause he won

Just a question.

LMAO at this thread. they are out to divide us!!! lol!!! in other words, Venus and Serena are one and you can't like one and not the other. oh well, so much for my always liking Serena and not being too drawn to Miss Vee. she reminds me of a certain "cold fish" actually now that i think about it. but then again my real agenda is to divide and conquer! too stupid by far.

Topspin, I noticed that on Saturday after the women's final. I stayed away from divisive threads because I love both girls. Saturday was Serena's day. She deserved that title because she played with all her heart and soul.

tennischick - when you say "cold fish" do you mean Sampras-esque? As in, boring and reserved ? :p

Andwhen you say Baracuda, do you mean bubbley, and wears their heart on their sleeve (though not to Hewitt-esque proportions)?

Does V'' Shandra, a supposely Wiilliams fan, ring a bell?

My post never said everybody who praises one sister over the other are in actuality promoting division. This thread was in reference to two threads in particular. Also, my assumption was based on what happened when either Venus or Serena was experiencing success and the other was not.

Throughout the last two years there were statements such as "Serena will not be able to rise out of Venus' shadow, Venus is the more natural tennis player, and Venus has the stronger mental toughness of the two." Were these statements made because SOME of these posters were fans of Venus and they were being objective? I don't think so. With Venus winning most of the time that pretty much made it very hard to say anything negative about her. The situation was different with Serena. Setback after setback in her tennis results made her an easier target.

Now, all of a sudden after the French Open, two threads appeared out of nowhere with one declaring "Richard Williams was right in saying that Serena is better than Venus." Why didn't they bring up this opinion in the past two seasons? Why didn't this poster list the real purpose behind Richard Williams' statement? He did this as a tactic to install confidence within Serena as a newcomer to the tour. In fact, when ESPN were doing a flashback on the rise of the Williams Sisters this weekend, Richard Williams said Venus would be the player to beat for years to come and the only player who be able to to challenge her on a consistent basis will be Serena.

Also, I love Serena and Venus with Serena as my #1 favorite slightly above Venus.

Where in this thread did I say there was a conspiracy? Did I say that ALL those who proclaim to like Venus not Serena or vice-versa promotes divisiveness?

I was merely suggesting "two threads in particular" could be a "V' Shandra" tactic and Williams fans should be careful not to get caught up in the moment and lash out against either Venus or Serena.

No I'm not quebecquoise - why do you ask?

I do aspire to live in Montreal someday though, so maybe eventually :D

topspin:
sorry but there was no mention of "V Shandra" in your initial post. you made an open statement and several of us responded. if you meant for only "V Shandra" to react, you should have mentioned her from the outset. that way both Becca and i could have ignored you.

Becca: i was thinking about "French" and wondered if u spoke it. i was thinking of something clever to say about a certain poisson/person.

tennischick - I can read French.

YOu welcome to be clever about a certain poisson ;)
