Well, I just looked it up, and there isn't any ATP events in the Czech Republic, so that makes it a little bit more understandable, but still...this is a Grand Slam semi-finalist we're talking about.:o

And there are no WTA events in Yugoslavia, but do you see Jelena Dokic entering in challengers there? Same for Anna Smashnova and Israel.

Ooh! I found the result!

SF Granville d. Stevenson (1) 7-6(5) 3-6 6-3

The second round through the semis were played indoors because of bad weather! So much for Alex getting much prep on grass!

:p
Kinda serves her right.
I'm trying to be nice to Alex, but come on...a Top 30 player in a $25,000 Challenger is ridiculous. Same goes for Jiri Novak.

Maybe Jiri and Alex just love playing so much, and thats why they entered challengers ;)

I dont see the big deal - I mean its not like they decided to skip a slam to play a challenger or someting :p

It was just some extra practice.

is it a grass court challenger?

cause if it is, i blame the ATP-WTA scheduling department instead of Alex and Jiri. If they want to make the grass court season this short, then of course top players will play challengers to get some practice before Wimbledon. Its one of the most important tournaments of the year and its only 2 weeks after the French on a totally different surface!

Prostejov is clay, Jiri hates grass

I can agree with that. I guess I can't blame Alex for wanting the extra grass court practice. But I'm sure she had to realize that her new-found status as a To 30 player was going to mean that her playing in the challenger would raise some eyebrows.
