ok, so when can we say "mission accomplished"? what can we expect from ana in the 5 remaining tournament this year? do we all have more modest expectations now that she wasn't able to live up to the expectations some of us had after she won in montreal? does anyone still dream about another title until the season's end?

Dexter
Sep 12th, 2006, 09:45 PM
Actually today I did some calculations with ranks etc and I was thinking about what I expect from Ana in the coming tournaments. So it was like:
Bali - SF
Luxembourg - SF or QF (depending on the draw)
Stuttgart - QF
Zurich - QF
Hasselt - SF

I meant those as absolute musts... well, 1st mission uncompleted :tape:
Hopefully she will kinda erm... perform better in the next ones

Very strange, with good tennis she won Montreal. But what the hell happend after that. An awful US Open and now knocked out in round 1 in Bali and Luxembourg.

Bali was a TIER III tournament. We know how that went.
It's good she's playing TIER I and II.

I don't know how many errors she made, but I think it was too much again.
Totally 42% first serve in. Also not good.

She had the chance to go to place 14, 13 or even 12. This is really not the way to do it.

Yes its a strain of her tendon... Nothing too serious, a week of rest and not using should be enough... It kinda shows that she has been over working... what is tendobitis  at least Jankovic is seeded now :tape:

It is an inflammation of the tendon of a muscle. Tendon=the long thin part that attaches the belly of a muscle to the bone. Usually it happens from overstrain from repetitive stress in a motion, a trauma, bone displacement, tight muscle, etc. Tight muscles pull on these tendons and pull them out of their normal range thus stressing them. Therefore the tendon is saying guys, I'm hurting here :). 2 weeks the doc said but in my experience 2 weeks is not enough. Sucks for her cause she has to take off part of the season.

I think that these people are never good in counting.
Myskina has 1262 points and Ana 1197. They said that Myskina has to defend 55 points and she won't play. So Ana will have more points next week.

Uhh......1262-55 = 1207. IN MY WORLD that's more than 1197.

ranking update:

ana will overtake myskina in next week's rankings and she could easily overtake schiavone as well. this means she might reach her best ever ranking of 13.

defending it won't be easy, though. she has sf points from zürich and linz to defend. hopefully she will win a match or 2 there.

DAVAJ MKirilenko

That's right azdaja. Place 13 sounds really nice! If Groenefeld wins and Schiavone gets a semifinal, then Ana is still 15. But there's not much changet that it will happen. So I will say 13!!! Of course the week after that is Zurich, so probably she will lose some places. If you look at the results of this year, Myskina won't play, she has already more points than Schiavone and Groenefeld and Ana will probably play 3 more tournaments. If you ask me, it can be a nice ending for Ana!!
Whatever will happen, GOOD LUCK, ANA!!!!
AJDE!!!!!

finally:

Ana has been forced to withdraw from the Zurich Open due to the shoulder injury she sustained during practice in Luxembourg a fortnight ago. The doctor’s advice is that though the injury has healed, her shoulder is not yet ready for competition.

“I'm so disappointed to withdraw from Zurich but really there is no choice,” said Ana. “Unfortunately this tournament has come too soon. I learned the hard way last year that you mustn’t rush your comeback. But I am still hoping to play in Linz (which begins on 23 October)."

“It’s especially frustrating because Zurich is probably my favourite non-Grand Slam tournament, I have a special relationship with Switzerland. But I am still only 18 and I’m sure I’m going to play there many times in the future.”
there is still hope for linz then.

DAVAJ MKirilenko
Oct 13th, 2006, 02:35 PM
I was already afraid of it. When Stuttgart started, they said that it would take 2 weeks. Her should had to heal completely, so of course I think it's better to wait 1 more week. I don't like it when Ana isn't playing, but it's the right choice now. I have the good hope that she will play at least 1 more tournament this year.

it is the stronger of the 2 tournaments played 2 weeks before ao, which means that points she earns there will count for her seeding there. i think it's a good decision.

and you can start a separate thread with info like this, so it can be found easily. it will get lost in this thread.

DAVAJ MKirilenko

It's the only TIER III tournament she's playing before Wimbledon (just like this year) so it's ok.

And why starting with a TIER III.
Strange, last year she started with the Hopman Cup and this year she's playing in the Gold Cost. Judging by the field at the event this year, she's a big chance to go deep in that tournament.

However she's completely changed her schedule, this year she started in Perth, then played in Sydney. This year she's gone for a lighter schedule, and it will be interesting to see if it pays off at the Australian Open.

Pretty damn good draw... This way to end the season it could be! ;)

I'm proud of Ana's match against Masha too... I think it was a great sign for their future match ups! :D

after schnyder's withdrawal ana's section looks like this:

Ana Ivanovic SCG vs. Michaëlla Krajicek NED

Qualifier vs. Vera Zvonareva RUS
Romina Oprandi ITA vs. Francesca Schiavone ITA

That's even better! Daniela and Anastasic won't play so they can't overtake Ana. Groenefeld has to win Hasselt (I don't see that happen) and the other one who can overtake Ana is Schiavone. If Ana reach the quarterfinal then she certainly won't lose against Schiavone. So there's a good chance that Ana ends the year as number 14. She barely had any results after Montreal, so place 12 was certainly possible. Who's 13th if Ana wins Hasselt? Chakvetadze or Ana? Both will have 1.144 points then.
2007 must be Ana's year! Top 10! AJDE!!!!!:bounce:

grönefeld can be happy if she wins a match :tape:

i noticed the thing about chakvetadze as well. i suppose they would share the 13th and 14th place, no? but ana is still far away from winning the tournament, so let's wait and see.

If Petrova withdraw and Clijsters isn't 100% either, then it will be easier for Ana. If she wins the tournament you'll get the same reactions when she won Montreal.
She only won it, cause.... and......and.....and.... weren't playing.

Oct 29th, 2006, 05:31 PM
Here it is:

(1) Kim Clijsters (BEL) vs Q
Martina Müller (GER) vs Q
Sandra Klösel (GER) vs Q
(7) Samantha Stosur (AUS) vs Q

(4) Anna-Lena Grönefeld (GER) vs Q
Lucie Safarova (CZE) vs Karolina Sprem (CRO)
(WC) Kirsten Flipkens (BEL) vs Elena Vesnina (RUS)
(6) Vera Zvonareva (RUS) vs (WC) Vera Dushevina (RUS)

(8) Mara Santangelo (ITA) vs Michaella Krajicek (NED)
(WC) Caroline Maes (BEL) vs Q
Romina Oprandi (ITA) vs Q
(3) Ana Ivanovic (SRB) vs Q

(5) Ai Sugiyama (JPN) vs Eleni Daniilidou (GRE)
Nathalie Dechy (FRA) vs Q
Elena Bovina (RUS) vs Q
(2) Fransesca Schiavone (ITA) vs Meghann Shaughnessy (USA)

Yeah, Ana really should make the final with this draw! She needs to beat a qualifier, then probably Romina Oprandi and Mara Santangelo or Michaella to get to the semis, then probably Ai or Francesca to get to the final. Would love to see her play Kim in the final.

Hey, Makiri doesn't prefer Vera over Ana... Don't say that! :sobbing: :p
But MK withdrew any way...

The new new new new (lost count of how many times it was changed :p) draw is great.... She really should make the finals but I have learnt not to expect anything coz it tends to result in disappointment, so one match at a time ;) And of course, if she plays Aga, no doubt the little one will want revenge!

i don't care what anyone says, the most important thing is that ana is playing well and winning tournaments. we could also complain that she could have more points if she hadn't been injured. that's a part of the game and at least she is playing top events.
