This is a such a good French Open Finals. Venus and Serena are playing each other. Their mom is in the stands smiling. The stands are packed. The World is tuned in.

Hey Serena give a "shout out" to Richard.

It has nothing do do with haters, it has to do with liking other styles of play more... And I think everybody sees and knows the Williamses are the best players around, but that's no reason why we I can't dislike their style of play.

arn
Jun 8th, 2002, 05:20 PM
Even more, I think there is even a quite a difference between Serena and Venus. I like Venus more cos I think she can do more diverse things with a ball.

I actually like Serena, it's venus that I hate!

Well, what you gonna do about finding you a Contender?

Let's talk again in 2015, by that time one would have surfaced.

In the meantime, enjoy the Williams. Any sister.

Just cos venus is not everyone's fave dosent make them a hater.

Grow up dude.

Sean,

That's not nice. So you want Serena as a fave?

I don't mind. We Willams fans like to share.

TexasTech Guy

arn they both have variety. If you watched the Capriatti Serena match you would see the Serena beat Jennifer with clay court tennis. Jennifer overpowere Serena all the way through

What do you people think made tennis so popular? Hinigs? Think again!

I don't mean hitting hard from the left to the right and suddenly two times the left is variety. (ok, this is exagerating)

If sooooooo many people say they don't play diverse tennis, there must be a little of it being true? But if you like that kind of tennis, fine by me :) I don't have anything against it, I'm just not a fan of it. (I also don't like serve-and-volley, I like long rallies with everything in it)

arn so does every once else? Its called a rally. Everyone loves rallies, but they dont happen very often, and its not a reason to hate a player when they dont produce them with their opponent. These women are professionals. This is a job. Their job is to win matches as quickly as possible. That goes for all of the women. This is still much more exciting than lets say a Sanchez Vicarrio and a Conchita Martinez MOON BALL festival do you agree?

Congrats to Serena and Venus! :bounce: Serena earned the French. And it's great that they are # 1 and # 2 in the world. They deserve all their success. But when they get bored with tennis in a couple of years, look for the Russian girls to dominate women's tennis! ;)

Sean

thecat - Theres no point in Congratulating the Williams girls for their achievements if your not a no 1 Williams fan cos SOME of the Williams fans will still find a way to cus you and your faves.

Why do you use the word 'hate' again???? Again, it has nothing to do with it!!!

And I said a rally with everything in it. An Aranxta-Conchita match has only 1 thing in it.

It's hard to explain, but I see differences. Venus and Serena try to hit winners on EVERY ball, they do not build points (I agree it improoved a lot, and I'm very happy about it, but still..) I still prefer players who try to hit the right stroke at the right time. I don't have the feeling the Williamses do this.

We dont need to address the haters, we know that they are always out. If anyone thinks that they are not a hater, then there is no need to defend ones self.

I have to disagree with anyone that says that the sisters don't have variety in their game. Utterly ridiculous. Maybe they just can't see past the power. Venus tried alot of things in this match today, Rena was just more aggressive. Both of them have played with alot of variety this entire clay season. That is the reason why they have completely turned their clay season around.

Either way a Williams won and thats what matters most.

BK4ever, I just try to make you understand why I don't like that particular style.

At least I try to understand why you like them!!! And I think I do know why you like them :)

But let's give an example. Would you like to watch a final; Martinez-Sanchez??? Or Novotna-Tauziat??? I don't think so cos you don't like how they play, but you don't hate those players. The same here, I don't like seeing Venus-Serena in a final!

GameSetMatch

Honestly, let the Williams fans have their day. How can people squabble when two sisters are playing each other in a grand slam? Two women who have overcome the odds to dominate women's tennis. This is their day. Sure their were many errors and Venus didn't play close to her best, but Serena had to capitalize against her older sister, something that is not easy to do, believe me. It was a fun mental match to watch. If you didn't like this match, I hope their will be plenty others that you will like. I commend the Williams sisters. Even if they aren't my favorites, you can't help but smile when Venus took pictures of Serena on the trophy stand.

I'm happy they are happy, but I can't stand it some of the Williams fans being happy only because other's didn't like the final! Why rub it in??? When Capriati-Clijsters played the finals last year we were not screaming; 'Get used to it!'

Some Williams-fans see Haters everywhere and they love to see them, so they see even more of them!

Jun 8th, 2002, 06:44 PM
Heavyhitter, I noticed that too. Right after the match, they started a devisive thread. But you know what? As long as they keep whipping asses, I don't care who wins in the finals.

Congrats to Venus and Serena for holding down #1 and 2 and a special on to Rena for winning teh French Open.

I was wondering if CBS showed Venus trying to take the picture. That was a great moment, and the crowd just loved it. I thoroughly enjoyed the match.

btw, it's ironic that you have "Weakest Link" in your signature. I just watched it for the first time on French TV. They say "Vous ętes le maillon faible, au revoir"

I thought the match was v. interesting.. .great mental match. It was sweet at the end, the interaction between the sisters. :)

Bright Red - yes (the match was on NBC) they showed tons of Venus taking pictures of Serena . It was really cute! It was funny to see all the photographers taking pictures of Venus taking pictures of her sister :) heartwarming moment for me :)

I cant believe that this thread currently has more replies than the Congrats Serena thread - 43 to 32 when i last looked.

I sadly can believe from the current trend on this board, that real fans (of any player) would rather post in a negative thread and bicker to there hearts content, than be positive about the result achieved.

Im sorry (and im not a huge williams fan either) but if people cant stand up and say that both of them especially Serena did good this fortnight then something is very very wrong. Whatever youre reasons for disliking them - they have played amazingly on the whole, and they deserve everything they got out of the tournament.

You guys (and i mean all of you) should either be staying quiet or cheering for a deserved winner. Either way goading, bickering and acting like the age of (venus - serena) in this thread isnt something to be proud of.

arn
Jun 8th, 2002, 07:21 PM
Hey, I like a good discussion, that's why I answered here. And there is no discussion here about Serena being the deserved winner or not (cos she clearly is!!). If there was discussion about Venus/Serena reaching a final that was undeserved I would surely back up all the Williams fans. For me the reason to answer this thread is becaause I didn't agree on the word 'hater'.

btw. I did congratulate Serena (and I meant it)

Julie

There is no real reason to answer this thread, it should have been left to die as should all the other negative and ridiculous threads which abound.
