Tell me more about this woman! I know she won the 1978 RG and lost to Chris in the finals of the 1980 RG...
How old is she? What was her career like? I wanna know! :D
You see, I discovered she a rather talented commentator, and I've greatly enjoyed her tennis commentary during the whole RG. She knows her tennis and gives unbiased commentary, and she has this cute French accent! :hearts:
She actually gives you insightful comments on what the players are doing and instead of talking about nonsensical stuff ... :o
She is light years of Andrea Lleand...
Hope Andrea doesn't do commentry for Wimby or US Open...

Hmmmm... i like her, but i find her commentry rather repetitive.
She must have said "That was good acceleration" 1000 Times! ;)
She sounds like a very nice person but i prefer a comentator who is a little more critical and technical like B.J.King, who is very perceptive.
I did enjoy her throughout the french open, but i hope for a change in Wimby though~! ;)

Virginia was born in 1955 and her highest ranking is 8.
I have to credit her for being unbiased and really analysing the matches well. However, if it's gossip from the tour you're after, then she's not the person to ask. ;)

I know that part... 'Good acceleration'... hehe... Billie Jean King is rather good...
But I just know we're going to get that stupid Andre Leand during Wimby and US Open... sure she gives good gossip... but tennis commentry?

I like Virginia's commentating as well!
She is very unbiased and seems to love the game.

she actually is a romanian despite the french accent
i'm not sure about her nationality now

Romanian? Ermm... really?

IMO, she's quite annoying and hilarious at the same time..... she keeps insisting that all you need is a relaxed upper body to make a good shot and I was laughing when during Dokic vs. Capriati, they showed stats for doublefaults -- Dokic5, Capriati4 -- and she mistook it for the number of games each player won..... I found her comments "Leftright, leftright" hilarious too.... Plus, She always manages to put something good in even when she's crticizing a player
Still she's not as bad as Andrea Leannd.... I still remember when she referred to Oracene as "Brandy Williams" at the US Open... poor oracene, she must have been mortified.....

Excatly... she is not overly critical and she is very hilarious... that is why I think she is a good commentator...
As for Andrea... pfft... :p

Yes, i like her overall. But one thing she said that annoyed me was that Tammy has never passed the first round of the french open! She has made the 2nd round twice previous to this year!
Although looking at Tammy on clay i don't blame her for thinking she never passed the first round! ;)

Am i the only one who doesnt like her? I used to think she was ok, but shes really annoying me this year. Two times she said something like "that was a good backhand" when it was actually a forehand! And i thought she pretty biased in the capriati-serena match. Bring back Liz Smylie, i think she was the best tennis commentator!

zut16, Oracene's nickname actually is "Brandi/y".
Vixen, when exactly did she say that about Tammy?
It must have been on Foxtel, was it?
Jun 8th, 2002, 11:21 AM
Yes... They showed a bit of Farina Elia vs. Tanasugarn on Foxtel.
The male commentator warned that Farina's lead was maybe not so strong because Tammy was a "Doubty Scrapper" - implying how tenacious and gritty Tammy can be.
Then after some small talk about both players Virginia says "dis is di first dime past 1st round for danasugarn"
- and i was like NO! - i was about to make an international phone call to Paris! ;)
Then both commentators say how Tammy and Paradorn "More" then hold their own on the pro-tour! - that made me happy! :)
Tammy played pretty good though..... But she doesn't move smoothly on clay! - she looks like she's swimming in the stuff... but her main clay court flaw is that she has NO patience... she went for winners of every shot. She loves speed, clay is just way too slow for her.
But i was proud of her anyway - also i noticed tammy grunts quite heavily and loud against farina! - so cute! :D

Wow Virginia is a blast from the past!!! I saw her play when I was a teenager many many eons ago when she played in event in Los Angeles.
It was the last year it was played at the Forum before it moved to Manhatten Beach.
She was elegant looking, had that curly jet-black hair and when she was on court, it sounded like she was hissing or moaning everytime she struck the ball.
Besides the French, she won a few other titles including the former U.S. Clay court tournament and a Detroit stop indoors, but she frequently finished second in many tournaments.
Great to see her back in the tennis world commentating.

Ruzici left the tour in the mid 80s when she discovered she was pregnant. Unlike most women tennis players, she decided to have
the child and raise it as a single parent.
Clay was her best surface, and she had a wicked spidery forehand. Ruzici's dark looks and Romanian background earned her the nickname of "Gypsy", not to mention taking the top prize
in polls for best legs on tour.
Ruzici went far considering the barriers she had to face living under a communist government. Thet kept a lot of her prize money. One year she won a car in a German event but couldn't bring back to Rumania because of a 100% import tax!

Poor thing... she sounds like a sweet girl though! :D
