or any players or tennis in general?

Navratilova, Evert, King have all been involved with WTA for long. We see Navratilova esp. commenting about slow surface etc.

Steffi was a great player. she can contribute a lot to tennis with her expertise and expirience. Now that Agassi will be retiring, I think she can give some more time to the sport which has given her fame and money.

BTW its not a Steffi bashing thread. i am a fan and u can check it im my signature.

What are ur thoughts about this?

It's just never been her style. She used to leave tournament sites as soon as her matches were over. She just wasn't all about tennis. She's definitely done some stuff, but it's not her sole life passion like it is for BJ King or Navratilova.

Personally, I'm glad she's not bitching and moaning about tennis all the time like a certain former champ. :tape:

Can you honestly see Steffi doing that? She's not a megalomaniac...unlike some people who just like to hear the sound of their own voice:tape: ...

Steffi is not like that. She works a lot with her foundation nowadays and I think she is doing a good job with it. She doesn't want it, just a family life anymore.

Andre wants to take the spotlight all the time so he forces her to stay behind.

Because she has better things to do. Steffi was never one to mix with the players she kept to herself.

Steffi isn't really very outspoken, plus she has a job as a full time mom to Jaden and Jaz

Like you, I also like Steffi.
One thing you must remember, playing and commentating are 2 different things.
I think commenting requires an outgoing, engaging personality, exrovert personality.

I am NOT so sure that Steffi has that.
Also, it could be a matter of personal preference.
However, there are other ways to contribute to tennis.
The WTA could use Steffi's thoughfulless by giving her a sit on the rule commitee (if there is such thing).
Some people prefer to work hehind the scenes, not in the spotlight

Yes - I was going to say that. The best players don't always turn out to be very good commentators and vice-versa.

Becasue she's busy looking after a family and her and Andre's millions.

I agree that she has a life and feels, rightly, that it is more important to her. Arancha SV does a lot for womens tennis.

I have to say though, that the WTA did not treat Steffi very well when she was becoming successful and famous, largely because she was not american. The WTA at the time had a large US bias. The players of a certain generation *ahem-mention-no-names-cough* complained and complained about her, being to young to play pro tennis, about her dad coaching her, about this, about that, you name it they whined about it! :(
She became freinds with players of her own generation, understandably :) She has always been a private person, that combined with her professionalism and her own very individual psyche, made a refreshing change in the sport to the prima donnas, both male and female, that had previously dominated the game. Thankfully the WTA has changed since then.
Keep doing YOUR thing Steffi  I love and respect you for it!

Even with Andre's retirement though, I hope we would still get to see her and the kids once in a while. Geez, I hope they'll be there to watch the final, this time together with Andre, but that's a long shot I guess

Well, she sits away from the crowd during Andre's matches. I suspect that, now that Andre is retired, we won't hear that much from Steffi again.

The WTA made millions off of Graf just appearing at tennis tournaments.

Graf was instrumental in bringing more WTA events to Europe.

She's owes the WTA nothing.

She's not a drama queen. Its just not her style.

For selfish reasons, i would have wanted to see her more out there in the tennis circuit, whatever role she can play. But with two young kids, I don't think she would even consider taking too much time out off them. She's just so devoted. I don't think pictures lie when it comes to this family. They look to be the real deal.

Maybe the fact that Steffi spend all these years supporting Andre in his career shows that she doesn't need her own career to feel sure about herself.
Nav in bad terminology claimed that she could never have done that and that's probably true too.
That doesn't make either one a worse or better person though. Everybody is different!

For some reason it seems that some people have never accepted that Steffi was not as communicative as Nav and more introvert. People (journalists) tried to make it a bad thing. Why is that?

Maybe it's partly jealousy/bitterness over the fact that it made her look so secure about her place as a top player that she never needed to back it all up with words. And partly frustration because a great champion such as herself have people who would have loved to know her better, to see more of her and what she's like outside of tennis. I guess, at least post retirement, she managed to do that just by being on Andre's side all throughout. I think though she did gave back something to those people who supported her in her career. Just unlike Andre (as her husband himself said), it wasn't communicated in the same grand way as he did.

her record speaks for itself, she doesn't need to continually harp on about tennis in her day (when have we heard her say "i have the greatest forehand in history") to feel good about herself

Oh here we go. Now Steffi's better than Martina cause she doesn't talk too much and Navratilova has a bigger mouth.

And for other's Navratilova is a great elder stateswoman while Steffi doesn't do enough when the WTA was good to her.

Sheesh people let it go.
