2004 Australian Open - R32 (6) Anastasia MYSKINA def. (28) Maria SHARAPOVA 6-4, 1-6, 6-2

Their first meeting.

It was the first time I laid eyes on both players and it was love at first sight 2x !!! :hearts: :hearts:

In the second set Myskina started spraying balls and a 16 year old Masha started to hit the balls deep, showing a glimmer of her future form. Myskina started freaking out about her racquet string tension, screaming, cursing at her coach and box! CLASSIC NASTYA. Masha started slowing down the play, which aggravated Mykina even more, going through balls from the ball boys and standing around the baseline waiting to serve.

In the third set, more drama and long rallies ensued with one rally going to around 40 strokes! (?!) Myskina stepped up her game, started counterpunching and making Maria really play.

Mary Carillo and Tim Ryan kept talking about what a bad match it was with errors and drama, etc. but I found it very entertaining and it was a great start to a fanship with two Russian beauties.

The End.

Yes I remember the match. Quite sloppy but quite dramatic to see the two russians battling it out on court arena. Myskina was her usual angry self but was thrilled to win :)
