I'm going to go home and cut my wrists in the bathtub.

Overall, considering her results lately, she gained some points and lived up to her seeding, so it's not a total disaster, but more a wasted opportunity for our Little Masha!

I hope sponsor and money problems are now history :D

Aravane will be playing some indoor events in Europe this season, as well as hard court events in Asia. She will even be seeded in Kolkata. There is no reason why a first title can't come soon!

Awesome performance and you gained more rankings points, and surely also more fans

Yeah Aravane hit insane shots and lots of them went in. But disappointing performance from Little Masha, she came out cautious and gave softball sitters to her opponent most of the time. No will, no thought, only fear and spaghetti hands. Work on your mental preparation, Little Masha!

:help:

Poor Kirilenko is destined to be overpowered all her life.

I don't think that's the case because when she does have some form she can challenge big hitters like Davenport and Sharapova, she just needs to find some form and turn one of her shots into a weapon.

I was concerned about Rezai overpowering and overwhleming Little Masha and that's what happened. :( Congrats to Rezai on a great run at the 2006 U.S. Open. :) But Elena Dementieva will exact some Russian revenge for Little Masha when she beats Rezai in the fourth round! :tennis:  :yeah:

Sep 1st, 2006, 11:56 PM
maria really needs to stabalize all parts of her tennis. she needs to get a real coach that will only be with her. not hitting partners, not coaches from her sponsors, but a real coach. she needs to train hard and play agressive tennis like she was playing at the beginning of the year and of course beat lower ranked players like rezai, who maria has no business lossing to.

Well she has a huge fanbase here, and support from her hometown of Saint-Etienne (mayor)..., she's shown on tv etc... The only Frenchies who sucked in this story are the dumbos of the FFT but you'll have to know that her father too didn't want them involved after what was called the "disagreement" lol :p

So she has help from us Frenchies, dumbo!  And her support in the Rhône-Alpes region is crazy...

:fiery:

I'll translate what souam's said (though it'll be a bit censored ) :

" She was born in Saint-Etienne, France and so were all her brothers & sisters. People from the town hall & others help her financially over there. Her only financial helps.

That's because there've been problems with her father who didn't want other trainers to work with her, she didn't have the right to shake hands with male umpires, and so on... and some of her opponents have had problems with him.

Since then he isn't watching any of her matches "for his own health and the one of the others" as he says. And even Aravane wants to work with another trainer. She wanted to prove it would work at the US Open where she's with her brother Anoush "to show her father she doesn't need him".

And the FFT (French Tennis Fereration) wasn't able to make things better with her father. Too bad such a talented girl has to pay for what her father's done. They totally f*cked up. Now she says "she plays for her country, and certainly not for her federation".

And too bad too that she doens't have any sponsor. "

Hope I translated correctly.

It's lovely how haters like to get focused on the recent awful streak, and seem to block from their minds (selective memory) that early in the year Maria stretched Davenport to 3 sets twice, Kuznetsova to 3 sets, Sharapova to 3 sets and beat Petrova 4 and 1. And according to you she always gets destroyed by top players. :weirdo:
I'm giving up posting on match results since nearly all replies are negative and provokative to the losing player, rather than happy and positive over the winning player.

About the match now:

Congratulations to Aravane who dealt the best with the wind and her missiles went past Maria's shotmaking.

Kirilenko. The quintessential top fifity player. Absolutely no threat to wn a slam, or to beat an elite player who even has their 'C' game.

I wouldn't go that far.

But I'll say #25-30 may be about right. She's caught in something of a limbo: she's not fast and consistent enough to make a career for herself as a retriever (and nowadays those only survive on the TIV circuit, as Aga Radwanska and her huge bandwagon will soon find out), and doesn't have the power to hit enough easy winners to be able to contend for bigger titles. Hingis lite just doesn't cut it these days. Kirilenko either becomes a better defender, or adds punch to her shots to prevent herself from being put on the defensive so often. The way she's playing now, #25-30, becoming a somewhat more glamorous version of Chakvetadze.
