i need help with knitting:

i need more extensive info on gauge and how to figure it out the more detailed the better.

also i need a VERY detailed and "Dumbed down" sock making info (with lots of pictures of each step). i think i have mastered all the individual things like knitting in the round, but i dont know how to turn all that in socks.

thanx in advance..

Edit:

this is me (nekked) holding up what i have finished so far but i needs help :bigcry:

Apparently you can knit your own tea bags. Is that what you're doing it for?

I think you will have to get a pattern. Then follow the directions! :wavey: Knitting is very cool......... especially for guys, second most for angry lesbians.

Maybe not, but I would bet my bottom dollar that you googled "knit tea bags" in a fit of excitement when you read it. Don't even try to deny it!

OMG we know we're into stuff over our heads. Wiggly's taken up knitting, I've taken up cross stitch. What's happening to us?
I know, this is our way of showin the ladies were domesticated and ready to settle down, we might as well hang a sign around our necks saying "Ready for Marriage".

You're making white socks? I always wanted some nice blue wool socks, the kind where you have like dark blue body, then lighter blue on the heel and toes.

LOL!!!

yeah learning cross stitch is on my to do list.  but first i have to master knitting.

oh i have light and dark blue wool just for that. :) but i need to learn how to do this first. i am using my cheap-ish white cotton yarn and boy is this stuff hard. i have 2 books coming in the mail that will show me more about knitting socks. i dont like knitting from the top down. maybe knitting from the toe up will be better.

Craft stores mostly, back home I got some stuff from a lil local one called Barbara's Gift shop, then I go to Hancock fabrics (which prolly has a website), and there's also a craft store that's a chain called Micheals or Michaels (I forget which way it's spelled). I'll post pics of some of my cross stitch I've done. I'm tryin to do everything to keep my mind busy off the fact I'm alone, and trying to get off drugs. I actually went to NA tonite, so maybe I'm seriously cracking.

I want some blue socks with different lighter colored toe/heel area :p I'll pay BIG for 'em.

I can only knit a little bit. :(

guage is one of the things I struggle with in crocheting. My mom took a crocheting class when I was 8 and I begged her to let me go to the class but I had to settle for her showing me when she got home. So I learned how to do the basic stitches but then my mom dropped out of the clase :o So I never learned how to guage. :fiery:

I have tons of needles but I like the 'H' best of all. I hate sport weight yarn and if a pattern calls for it I just use regular weight. :tape:

well, that is nice. my brother got handmade socks for last christmas, and i noticed that they were not going to fit very well because the pattern didn't have enough curves in it. but yours does.

do you have stretchy yarn or some lycra in there?

nothing. just your standard cheap yarn. i think its all about getting a good pattern. and knitting with a smaller needle. so like the gauge for that yarn is a size 8 needle, the book says to use a much smaller needle so i used a set of size six. but i could have done it with a size 4. anyway, according to the book using a smaller needle makes the sock fabric dense, more strechy and more curvy. :)
