View Full Version : Tell Wal-Mart: Apologize Now

We must stop Wal-Martís outrageous behavior now.

As you may remember, late last year Wal-Mart formed its own right-wing front group to try and defend the company. Wal-Mart called the group, Working Families for Wal-Mart, even though it had no working families, was funded directly by Wal-Mart, and is being run out of the same office as their public relations war room.

Since then, this group has recruited a cadre of some of the dirtiest and most extreme right-wing operatives with ties to Karl Rove, the New Hampshire phone jamming scandal and the Swift Boat Veterans. And, following Karl Roveís playbook, Wal-Martís operatives immediately launched attacks against leading Democrats and even launched a website personally attacking WakeUpWalMart.com staff.

But, yesterday, Herman Cain, one of the steering committee members of Wal-Martís front group and a well-known right-wing commentator, completely crossed the line in a column he wrote by describing Democrats who are standing up, on behalf of working families, and asking Wal-Mart to be a responsible corporation as ďHezbocrats.Ē

Mr. Cainís attempts to associate great leaders like Senator John Edwards, Senator John Kerry, Senator Joe Biden, and others with Hezbollah is inflammatory, ridiculous and an insult to every American leader who has stood up and said Americaís largest employer, Wal-Mart, should be responsible and pay a living wage and provide affordable health care to its employees.

Please join us in calling on Wal-Mart to immediately apologize to the American people, denounce Mr. Cainís remarks as outrageous, and ask Mr. Cain to resign from Wal-Martís front group. Sign the petition on this page.

Unfortunately, Mr. Cainís remarks come right on the heels of another embarrassing incident for Wal-Martís front group when Ambassador Andy Young, the former chairman of Working Families for Wal-Mart, was forced to resign for using derogatory statements to defend Wal-Martís business practices.

As some of you may recall, Ambassador Young insulted Asian-Americans, Jewish-Americans and Arab-Americans in trying to defend Wal-Martís business practice of putting small businesses out of business.

Both Andy Youngís remark and Herman Cainís column are a disgusting display of how the politics of personal destruction now runs rampant through Wal-Mart's right wing war room. The tactics of Wal-Martís steering committee members are unbecoming of the corporation, leading Wal-Mart down a very dangerous path, and insulting to every American who believes in affordable health care for all, corporate responsibility and living wages.

Please join us in immediately calling on Wal-Mart to apologize to the American people by signing the petition on this page.

The good news is, while Wal-Mart suffers from these embarrassing incidents and their first profit decline in more than a decade, our campaign to change Wal-Mart is gaining tremendous momentum as we travel around the country on our 2006 Change Wal-Mart, Change America national bus tour. In just the last few weeks, the tour has been featured on the front page of the New York Times, ABC World News, the Washington Post and countless other media outlets.

With over 256,000 supporters all across America, we hope Wal-Mart will use these two incidents as an opportunity to shut down its pointless attack group, end its association with these right-wing operatives, stop its misguided attacks against so many Democratic leaders, and realize that only through real positive change will Wal-Mart become a better company.

Well, if the democrats/leftists kooks won't fight the terrorists, at least we can count on them to never give up the fight against Wal-Mart!

I'm gonna stop by Wal-Mart on my way home!

You're right. We should stop advocating for fair wages and do something that contributes to the fight againt evildoes and makes us all safer.

Like preventing people from wearing t-shirts with Arabic writing on them from airplane.

Yee-ha, that'll help!

Wal-Mart is low-budget and vile. I go there once a year at a maximum. It's just dirty and the people who shop there are like not people I'm into and the staff is rude and lazy and the rows are too narrow and the stuff is just crap.

You mean like Andrew Young, that right wing white Republican?

Oh wait, he's black, a Democrat, and a former Carter and Clinton
position holder, and UN Ambassador.

The guy who makes George Allen's comments seem as dumb and
tame as they were - Young took out whites, Jews, pretty much
anyone in his comments last week.

Thus, he resigned.

Heck, we don't want a Walmart fascist sexist racist store in
our neighborhood, we'd rather have an empty dirt lot and
no jobs! Yeah, that's what we'd like! Nothing in that eyesore
of a downtown slum. Take your Walmart, low prices, clean
store, and plenty of jobs and shove it! We would rather
have a liquor store and a cash checking store, not Walmart!

Horrible Walmart, with its low prices and vast services and
huge inventory. Horrible Walmart giving kids and old people
and return to the workforce moms and dads a job for a fair
wage. It does offer benefits, not great ones, but some. Better
than nothing. But, you shouldn't go to Walmart expecting to
stay there forever, anymore than you would at Target or
Sears or McDonalds - for most employees don't stay.

The Walmart group is legal, it's fine, and it's just one of many
out there, most of which are attacking Walmart for being too
big, too good at what it does, and too successful.

Don't shop at Walmart. I don't much.But, that's just because the
two around me are too crowded, busy, and the sales people
are annoying - my 3 experiences were all the same there. The
ones I've been to in Utah and Idaho and Oregon were run totally
different than the ones I experience locally.

Unions? They have a right to try to get in to Walmart, but,
Walmart has a right to say no, for as long as it can. Why not?
Their record is actually prett good when you consider how
huge they are. The major hotel and food chains probably
have more problems with employees and broken rules than
Walmart does.

I don't begrudge Walmart what it does. I think it has not hurt
the economy of the cities it is at here one bit, it has probably
helped. Made the other stores polish themselves up, stay open
longer, and offer more services, that's bad? It offers jobs, and
it offers wages that are competitive. Don't work there if you
dont' want to, but, don't stop someone else from doing that.

Personally, I find a Costco far more disturbing to a local economy
than a Walmart. Costco comes in, and there goes Smart and Final,
Kmart, and Sears, and now insurance is being offered, and even
caskets at Costco. What can't you get at Costco? How many
small businesses are being shut down because of their effect?

Karl Rove on the brain. Seriously, Howard Dean and George Soros
disturb me, but I don't fixate on them. Right wing nuts like Andrew
Young are going to take over the world with Walmart!
