okay i know i saw this posted before here and few months ago and i even posted in there because i was curious then, but now i cant find that thread and i really need to know...

i am going back to school next week and wanted to put my itunes that is on my house computer onto my laptop this way i can update my ipod while in school. So basically how do you move your itunes from one computer to another without deleting everything on the ipod already and everything like play counts, ect.

thanks :wavey:

Go to Edit > Preferences > Ipod
Click on Manually Manage Songs and Playlists

The next time you connect your ipod, you will have to select and drag the songs from your library to your ipod. You can then erase all the songs from your computer or back them up to a cd/dvd. Your ipod library and playlists will not be deleated.

ok so once i have it on manual they wont leave my ipod unless i specified, even if there deleted on my computer, right?

is there any way to move all of that to my laptop though? so i can update while at school. like isnt my ipod only going to work on the one computer it was installed to?

Your ipod will work in any computer. When you open up itunes in your laptop, make sure you press and hold both the shift and ctrl buttons at the same time until your ipod appears in itunes. Once it appears go to edit > preferances > ipod and select "manage songs and playlists manually"

I had this problem a few months ago too, lol I just transferred the data with CD's and redid the playlists (took nearly a whole evening having to click fast forward to get the playcount back up again for all the songs but worth it I guess)

When you have your iPod set to manually update, are you able to arrange the playlist? I mean I shuffle my playlist but it still goes in the order of it being added.

You can get a program that will suck all the songs out of your ipod onto your laptop. There are many, I think Escape Pod is the name of one of them.

I'm thinking about getting an ipod, but am technically challenged to say the least. If I get an ipod, and get the songs from itunes, can I put them on my ipod from a regular Dell computer with Windows, i.e., do you need an Apple computer to do ipod, because I don't have one.

Thanks, hon! :) The shuffle one for about $60 looks good, I only want like 30-40 songs on it to play randomly.
