the question is does Stevenson continue to compete now that the US season is over and she won't get any more wildcards for 6 months...

meanwhile Poutchek is getting close to re-entering the Top 100 after a slump lasting more than 3 years...

Ouch. What's her record this year? How the HELL could Jelena lose to her, considering Jelena at least has a winning record this year.

Poutchek's the one who is always complaining, right?

Yey. It's always nice to see the delusional Stevenson fans shut up immediately.
Stevenson will be lucky to even get a qualifying WC next year.
I recommend she plays in Asia in the small tournis, beg for as many WCs as possible, youre going to need them.

fat chance. Like wannabe just said, now she'll probably go to the Asian Tier 4's and beg for WCs.

I'm surprised it went to a tiebreak. Did Poutchek choke a bit? She was up 5-4 and some setpoints no?

She has no choice but to play challengers as why would she get any wildcards in Europe. Her summer season was encouraging. This loss is definitely a setback, but i believe she can bounce back on the itf circuit. :)

Will Alex Stevenson ever become better?

If she ends her career like this, she will be remembered as one of the biggest
fluke a grand slam semi-final has ever seen.

If she can start playing like she did when she became #18 in the world she can definitely be a factor. She looks like she has gotten in better shape. I think right now what she needs is confidence. Playing in and being successful in challenger events will definitely help her.

I have not seen her play for a long time, but from what I have read, she does not seem to have any well thought out plan to get back to the level you are talking about. She seems to just be going through the motion, content to just be playing.

I'm sure she wouldn't be out there if she was just content with playing. I don't think any player feels that way. Everyone is trying to reach the top...

I don't think she is necessarily in better shape but I do think she still hasn't quite recovered from her shoulder problems.

Oy. I was at this match. Poutchek is a complete headcase :tape:

Stevenson should've won the first set. After that she was awful.

Its funny because I saw Poutchek playing during her slump. She was so scared to hit through the ball, she was looping her shots and sticking behind the baseline.
This year she is having quite a few wins... when I saw her she was really bending down and hitting through the ball again... nice clean shots....especially the backhand, looked like a completely different player. I was impressed by her. She is a whiner, but I hope she goes back into the 100 soon.... I like her groundies.
