Wrong. Hingis' problem isn't merely power, it's power AND consistancy. Peng has that when she's in position, but when Hingis moves her around she won't IMO, be able to stay in the rallies.

 Hingis can hit with decent pace, and will have no problems moving the ball from side to side. Her H2H with Seles is 15-5. Shaui is a mini-Seles with half the talent. Result: straight sets for Hingis.

Umm hingis played seles when seles was going down hill. Peng might still be rusty but who knows. Peng has the talent she just needs a bit. But we shall see. If peng can handle the drama that is Hingis. She just got mad because no one cared when she whined while the william sisters reigned. Well also i think hingis is a bit arrogant herself too. She tried to pull the card she felt sorry for her opponents. Thats who suji knocked her down the thrown she was never really on. The only hope she has now is that clijsters isnt there to put her in her place.

If Peng were in form she'd have a shot, because Martine looked weak to me in the two matches I saw her play in Montreal. She wasn't hitting deep enough. But Peng has been out and injured and will probably hit a ton of UEs in this mach, therefore Martine will win in straights

If a player has neither a top rate serve nor excellent movement, the player does not win a set from Martina Hingis.

Peng loses in straight sets. Honestly, I have not seen anything from her to suggest that she belongs in the top twenty...

it'll be interesting to see which peng shows up. the good news is that she'll probably be on tv, since she's playing hingis.

if peng is in control of her game, she has a good chance to win.

ivanovic? neither has a top rate serve or excellent movement, but she just crushed martina because she was consistently hitting with power, which peng has the ability to do.

You really need to get off hingis' nuts. Hingis was great then not now. Oh wow she can move the ball has great pace... she still got dumped by ana. Weather you like it or not if peng doesn't finish her off someone else will. Peng has the serve and weapons to deal with it.. you really never know. Even though Hingis won when she was 15 and is one of the greats... she is still a freakin cry baby that bitches when things dont go her way. She's as childish as vadisova and has the arrogance of sesil. The only reason she ranked so high is all the other top players entered like what 5 tournaments total. Just because Hingis is the only player who has a decent mind game...so what. Shes not powerful thus she will need variety and pace. If you lack in one department she have to get stronger in the other. Everyone can blab how venus and serena were mindless ball bashing gorillas... the point is that they made up in that department so they won end of story... we all knew if hingis had drew clijsters in the quarters shed b a dead duck

peng has a very good serve too. as good as ana's. but most people in this thread just assume she has a bad serve, and say that there's no way she can beat hingis.

to the martina fan above me.

peng beat clijsters 6-4, 6-4 on a hardcourt last year.

last time i checked, hingis hasn't beaten her yet this year at all.

Uh, maybe you should learn to fucking read and get your head out of Peng's ass, k? Hingis is not the best now; far from it. All I'm pointing out is that she's still MUCH better than Peng has, is, or ever will be. Yeah, it's not exactly nice to say it, but it's true. Can Shuai win? She definately could, anything is possible. Will she? I say no, emphatically.

Peng probably can win if she plays out of her mind but i'd surprised if it went any further than a routine 3rd set win for Martina. Peng has not played enough lately and when she has it ain't been that pretty.

Ana has also beaten other top players she beat mauresmo in 2 sets in sydney this year she just out played her. So it wasnt a huge surprise for her to beat martina.

Shuai hasnt played well recently and i would be very shocked if she even took a set off martina, unless martina wasnt playing well at all or choked.

I don't think Momo is a good example because her game is pretty much the same as it was a few years ago, she's just pulled it together mentally in a big way, she was always a contender for major titles, since '99, it's not like she was #40 or #50 or something, and she won many titles before Australia this year...
I think Peng has a good game but what has she accomplished besides making the final of one decent tournament last year, it was LA right? A Tier 2...you really can't compare that to Marti's 3 Tier 1 finals alone this year, or her 41 career titles, 15 overall Slams, etc., not saying she has no chance, I just don't think it is a great one...
Contrary to what some posters believe, this match has more to do with what Hingis does, if she is nervous and playing badly, yeah, Peng has a good chance.

No you weren't, asswipe. You keep criticizing Martina's "size b" titles, like you did in this post. Size B? Hmm, would you like to compare their careers? I'm not saying Peng can't improve either, I'm just saying she'll never be as good as Hingis. That's just the truth.

peng made the semifinals of a tier one in san diego, beating clijsters, dementieva, and safina along the way.

facts. get them straight.

very few of martina's matches are in her control. this isn't one of them. if peng is on, and mentally shows up for the match, then she can make it close. can she win it? who knows. that's up to her.

But, Patty is THE number one player of Switzerland...She can control the match anyway she wants! ;)

I suggest Hingis a new approach, hit every ball as hard as you can, aim the lines, see if it's a winner or UE...This way you can say you "controlled and dominated" after losing the match. :wavey:
