Voskoboeva has taken first set against Mauresmo 64!
Who is she?
Mauresmo must be rusty after all this time off!

At 6'2 Voskoboeva is the second tallest player in the Top 100 after Davenport.

Not heard of her before, showing my ignorance! Oh well, she playing well at moment it seams, tho she's now down 0-5 in second set! Lol! Looks like i've jinxed her!... Anyone know how the hell you pronounce that name!

actually, as I have posted in another thread, Galina has been playing really well in this tournament. She has a big 1st serve and a fh. She runs around to hit her fh. Her second serve is significantly slower but has a big kick. She is useless at the net and against low balls (like slices). She is got to be successful against players who hit with a topspin as it comes right into her hitting zone (e.g. her match against Sam Stosur).

Galina is a good example of what playing A LOT can do. Didn't she play like 16 weeks in a row last fall/winter to get in the AO main draw directly?

Anyways she almost lost a set to Sharon Fichman in Rogers Cup and lost to Tania Rice in Montreal 2 years ago. I don't see much in her game, I think she is really reaching her best ranking ever right now.

I think Mauresmo heard during the match about her US Open Draw and she thought for it in a while.

I'd disagree. her problem has always been her lack of focus. Last year at US Open quali tournament she was cruising and then fell apart after making couple of easy ue. Literally, fell apart. Her opponent didn't have to do anything with that.

I agree I think :) I just watched a few points of it and Amelie did hit the ball low which she struggled against and wasn't so good at the net :wavey:

Mary hits much flatter than Amelie, so if Mary doesn't destroy herself with ue, she should beat Galya

Thats her major issue, as CD pointed out to me in montreal, when she gets in trouble she moonballs, for no reason at all, she will be hitting winners, and the person she is playing starts to play better and she just starts moonballing.

I saw her play Advanta qualies a couple years ago. She went down 1-6, 1-3 or something like it and came back to beat Grandin. She didnt impress me at all. She played a lot like Daniela Hantuchova, but worse.

I guess I just never saw her in a good time for her, but it has been three years in a row in Montreal and Toronto that I've really not been impressed. She hits well but for me she just has nothing impressive. Not a definite weapon.

Won over Krajicek in qualies and then played an awful match full of chokes vs Tatiana Perebijnis in the 1st round. She doesn't impress me at all too.
