I say good for Allentown. Unfortunately the ACLU etc. will likely win, but its a good statement either way.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) -- Hispanic activists and the American Civil Liberties Union sued the city of Hazleton yesterday over one of the toughest crackdowns on illegal aliens by a U.S. city.
Hazleton, with a population of about 31,000 and located 80 miles from Philadelphia, voted last month to fine landlords $1,000 for renting to illegal aliens, deny business permits to companies that give them jobs and make English the city's official language.
The Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund said the lawsuit is the first in the nation against a city that passed an ordinance against illegal immigration. The group and other plaintiffs contend that the Constitution gives the federal government exclusive power to regulate immigration and that the Hazleton ordinance is discriminatory and unworkable.
"It makes every person who looks or sounds foreign a suspect, including those who are here legally," said Witold Walczak, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Pennsylvania. "You might as well just paint a target on every foreigner's forehead or a sign saying, 'Please treat me differently.'"
Mayor Lou Barletta, who proposed the ordinance after two illegal aliens were charged with fatally shooting a man, had no comment.
Frustrated by inaction in Washington, many cities and states have passed measures to restrict or punish illegal aliens and those who do business with them. Some local officials see the Hazleton lawsuit as a test of their ability to take immigration matters into their own hands.
The Congressional Research Service, a nonpartisan agency that writes reports for lawmakers, said in an analysis that federal law probably precludes municipalities from enforcing such measures.
The Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund, the ACLU and other groups filed the lawsuit on behalf of 11 Hazleton residents and business owners and three nonprofit groups.
Among the plaintiffs are landlords who say they lost tenants and a Mexican immigrant who says her grocery store and restaurant have fallen on hard times since the ordinance was passed.
It is not clear how many illegal aliens live in Hazleton, but the city's Hispanic population has soared in recent years.

Illegal aliens are in the US illegally, therefore they have no rights in the USA.

I hope more towns and small cities fight back against the invasion of arrogant illegal aliens into our country.
THAT RIGHT!!!

we need to make sure that all those colonists and their children who are all here illegal get sent back to their respective european, asian or african homelands. its about 400 hundreds over due, but this invasion has done enough damage to the native homeland, we need to send these invading arrogant, thieving bastards back to their side of the ocean!!

Again, you've put the focus where it doesn't belong. This country is THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA now...even if you don't like it. :)

I have such mixed feelings. Personally, I think that everyone who checks out and doesn't have a criminal record should be let into the country with minimal paper work. However, the fact is that illegal aliens are like the line cutters from elementary school. All the legal immigrants have to wait 5 to 10 years to get citizenship, and have to fill out mountains worth of paper work because the process is so inept and bureacratic. I never liked cutters. Therefore, until the system is reformed to allow more immigrants, all the illegals should be sent home and should wait for their turn.

Ever heard of the statue of limitations? In our court system, one has 30 years to sue a neighbor over property lines if one feels a neighbor is encroaching upon one's land. After 30 years, that land legally becomes part of the neighbor's estate. The Natives did not succeed in getting the Europeans out after 30 years. Therefore, they cannot kick us out now.

cognitive dissonance must be tasty because some of you seem to have eaten a massive dosage of it.

Just show proof of ciitzenship, what's so hard about that?

I have to show ID if I write a check, and that isn't enough
sometimes. Big deal.

Should read 'some hispanics' sue. Many other Latinos
think these freeloaders should be booted out by any
legal means.

It's fine to say it's okay, unless you live next to a house
that is meant for one family, maybe up to 10 or so in a big
family. But, no, there are now 20 or 30 illegal aliens in the
house, hanging around all day and night, cars all up and down
the block, and looking into your yard. Then, it's not so cool.

Illegal Aliens.

Not Immigrants.
Not Hispanics.
Illegal Aliens.
Illegal Immigrants Who Don't Care About Following
Any Law in the USA.
That's what we're talking about.

Be specific.

So who's gonna build, paint and clean all the houses? :awww:

If there are no illegal aliens...the economy will struggle...there's the same problem in the UK...whether to cut off your nose to spite your face or whatever :D

I don't really know either way...there's positives and negatives regarding this situation.

To be perfectly honest I still don't think that white people, I don't care what party they are, will allow themselves to become to the minority in their own country.

And if something doesn't stop this illegal immigration, and other things to curb Hispanic growth, thats excatly going to happen.

voted last month to fine landlords $1,000 for renting to illegal aliens, deny business permits to companies that give them jobs and make English the city's official language.

And the problem is?

You are in a country unlike any other else that would
not want you there illegally and you shouldn't be allowed
to get a job when just being there under that guise is
criminal offense. Plus, in an English speaking country why
would you not have english as the "official" language?

Did the already established language suddenly change
during the influx from Asian countries in the 70's?

Don't even try to go there!

Race in this instance of illegal activity
has nothing to do with it and only
stands to trivialize and dillute real
racial issues.

If they didn't know those people were illegally there,
that's one thing. If they did, it's totally another.

Regardless, the law should be knowingly broken
so these people can turn a profit there?

It would make far more sense to fight against those who make it worthwhile for there to be illegal immigrants in the first place... ie: those who hire them... but again, this would make sense. Far too much sense. Let's not do that.

IMO, it isn't that so much as it his these certain
Mexican immigrants coming here acting as if they
are suddenly and w/o question entitled to something
and people should change and bend over backwards
to accomodate them.
