In spite of a change of owners, Suicide Tennis stays the same. Remember, every choice, whether good or bad, can be deadly...

Suicide Montreal

1. Each day of play, you must pick 1 winner playing a WTA main draw singles match. Of course, the player that you choose, is playing one match scheduled to be played that day (as seen on the order of play).

2. Once you pick someone, you cannot choose them again for the rest of the tournament. So, you don't want to waste a pick on Clijsters or Sharapova to win in early round matches. All picks are final, and you may not change your mind once you have posted a pick. NO EDITING OF POSTS!

3. You must choose one player to win each day. If you forget, are sick, or are unable to reach a computer, it will be treated as a wrong pick, and you will be out of the tournament. As well, your pick must be chosen before the pick's match has commenced, otherwise it will be considered a wrong pick, and thus you will again, be out of the tournament.

4. Only in the case of a walkover, or a withdrawal, each player is allowed to have a back-up pick, selected at the same time as their initial pick. That back-up pick will only be used in the occurence of a walkover or withdrawal, as stated above. Retirements do count as completed matches.

Replacement picks must be identitified like this:

BACK-UP PICK - Daniela Hantuchova

If it is not clearly identitified, then both picks will be declared invalid.

5. If you wish to participate, just write the word IN in this thread. New players are ALWAYS welcome!

6. Once the order of play with be released, it will be added IN THIS THREAD to facilitate your choices. Each day, this post will be updated with its respective order of play.

7. There are 16 seeds. Seedings are based on the rankings.

Tournament Bulletin*
*Idea shamelessly stolen from the flan-tastic newest Suicide Tennis tournament director, Randriantastic!

Welcome to Suicide Montreal! Taking a look at the entry list thus far (and yes, unlike the WTA, you are allowed to see these), it's apparent the field at Suicide Montreal is almost as stellar as the Sony Ericson WTA Tour's (or SEWTA for short) Montreal Draw. 5 or less Top 10 players? Check. One Top 5 player? Check.

While the big names may not have entered yet, there's certainly more than enough great Suicide competitors entered here, sure to make this one exciting fight to the last breath. Current Top Seed, #4 Davenselesport, is still in search of that first career title. There's no better time than a Tier I event, we say! Our #6 seed, DomenicDemaria, is the defending Roland Garros champion and recent San Diego Semifinalist and is usually someone you'll see towards the end of every tournament. Yours truly, MH0861, comes in ranked just outside the Top 10 at #11, but is one of the hottest players on tour (in more than one way! :D ) by winning his last two events entered at Budapest and San Diego before taking a Kim Clijsters-esque break last week.

That's not to say some of our unseeded (as of now... ) talent aren't capable of dominating this tournament either. One only has to look at #20 ranked MommieJ, who has a tour leading FOUR! titles this season. True, he's exhibited Anna Smashnova-like dominance at our lower Tiered events, but a recent Runner up finish at San Diego proved he can compete with the very best. Let's not forget about Randriantastic!, either, who followed up a Wimbledon final with Semifinal finishes at Cincinnati and Budapest (before a bleak 1R loss at LA, but even three-time slam champions lose 1R sometimes!). There's also everyone's favorite PTS director, #25 ranked NyCPsU (WHAT UP CJJJJJJ! :D), who has certainly come alive this summer with deep runs at San Diego and LA and has been rocketing up the ranks as of late. We hope Dani can follow your example. ;) We're also welcoming former Top 10 stalwart amirhendel back to the game! :) Hope your comeback goes better than Lindsay's last week!

Finally, we're extending a warm welcome to some brand new players this week - ASP0315 from India, nbaker53 from the USA and solson7859 from some mystery country. Madagascar, perhaps? ;)

Tournament Bulletin
**LATE NIGHT EDITION**

After a long, depleting day of negotiations, Tournament Bulletin can officially announce that the Suicide World's Top 5 has officially commited to enter Montreal! After stepping outside the corporate executive board room minutes past 11PM, tournament director MH0861 commented on the negotiations. "Basically, I am the man Larry Scott wishes he was when it comes to player negotiations. I refuse to discuss my tactics, but I was not gonna let this prestigiuous tournament look like it was some rinky dink Tier III event."

Rumors were swirling this past weekend that #1 ranked Slokid would again be absent this week after an uncharcteristic first round beatdown at San Diego and a no-show at LA last week. An insider tells us, "I really think the pressure has gotten to him. Have you seen how tight the rankings are? #1 is everything to him. He withdrew with "sore typing fingers", but I think the problem is much deeper, really." Shrieks of "Mirza or Williams? MIRZA OR WILLIAMS?!?!" outside the top ranked player's apartment were the shouts heard 'round Slovenia last week prior to his mysterious absense. Stay tuned!

Stay tuned!

Suicide Bulletin
DAY 01 EDITION

So, it's March. Innocent, unknowing suicide competitiors see "MIRZA VS. UNHERALDED NO NAME WILDCARD" in the Order of Play. A sure thing, right? I mean, Sania could never lose to someone ranked (or unranked as the case may be), right? BAM. Worst mass suicide in game history. Fast forward to August and... some things don't change. In a move that has to have game competitors up in arms, Mirza has yet again crashed out to a player she should be handling with ease and causing more headaches. Says one disgruntled player, "I hereby rename her SUCKY SANIA!" while one annoymous comment has asked Mirza to be banned from the game entirely and be referred to as "*****" because they could not bear to even type out her name. Moral of the story people: Don't be fooled by the nosering! Although most people knew better than to pick Mirza today, some of our stars still fell into the trap. This includes MommieJ (See you at the next Tier IV event!) and gumoll, amongst others.

An interesting selection of matches to choose from on Day 02. We have tournament favorites like Nicole Vaidisova and Martina Hingis. And don't forget about Nicole Pratt - in case you haven't heard, she's playing like a Top 50 player. All the best in your selections!

Champion88 must be waiting with baited breath to see if he becomes a seed. We're still waiting to see if World #17 bubba08 plans to make a casually late entry into the tournament with a Day 02 pick. Unlike the real Montreal tournament, we want all the top players to enter and we don't deny anyone (SCREW YOU MONTREAL DAVENPORT HATERS! :p ). So, if he doesn't enter, your Dechy pick will be discounted and if you reallyyyyyy like playing Russian Roulette you could even use her again.

One thing I really do not like about this game is that seeds do not have to make a pick in the first round.
It is unfair.
It reduces my accomplishment of being one of the top players.

originally this game had no byes.
That way it was equal for every player.
It was introduced that way on the men tennis forum.
On this board the games are better run. However there is a tendency to change the games to the advantage of players that are allways playing.

I have a question : Why we havenīt Suicide Tennis for the ITF tournament ???

Hello ... ?

It's enough work to run Suicide Tennis for regular tournaments. Plus, there's usually only a handful of people who play Tier III/IV events... I'm sure even less would play ITF. If you won an ITF tournament you'd get like 6.75 points towards your ranking.

MH0861
Aug 16th, 2006, 01:30 AM
I guess you haven't heard my Sucide Tennis motto:
"Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice fuck you Sania Mirza!"

No, but you've fallen victim to Na Li's suckiness instead.

I understand your points. We've been playing with seeds since Indian Wells for the WTAworld version, as part of the game's evolution. As far as I can tell, the game was in its early stages when the decision to give byes were made. The only time byes make a difference (besides skipping a Day 01 pick), is when the tabulations are made for a "title win". In Suicide, everyone gets the same amount of points for the same result (and if a Seed with bye loses on Day 2, they still get 1 point).

For a reference, here are the tournaments with byes used and if a seed or nonseed won.

INDIAN WELLS - MH0861 (Unseeded)
MIAMI - SMOKOVEC (Unseeded)
AMELIA ISLAND - LUXXAS (Seeded)
CHARLESTON - TENNACE (Unseeded)
WARSAW - ZAUBER (Seeded)
BERLIN - SLOKID (Unseeded - all players received byes in Berlin because it was the comeback tournament)
ROME - ~PPP~ (Unseeded)
EASTBOURNE - SLOKID (Seed)
STANFORD - ~~CANUCK~~ (Unseeded)
SAN DIEGO - MH0861 (Seed)
LOS ANGELES - Silverwhite (Seed)

So, 6 Unseeded winners vs. 5 Seeded winners with byes. This ratio is certainly better than the real WTA. Further, The Current Top 16 have won 11 titles in total between them, whilst those ranked 20+ have 20 between them. This isn't completely indicitative, because I'm #11 now and wasn't ranked when I won Indian Wells, but it gives a good idea about the title spread.

I think we've made a good compromise to reward top players and give them an incentive to keep their ranks up with byes in Tier I and II events only. Lower Tiered events have no byes, and neither do the slams. This format closely matches the way it is in the real WTA - which is what we're trying to accomplish with this game. I think it's one of the quirks of Suicide Tennis, and what makes it stand apart from the rest. I don't think anyone looks at your rank of #2 and says, "Oh, he doesn't deserve to be there, he gets byes all the time, no fair." I think people respect how well you've played to get there and look at that as an inspiration to play well themselves.

As of now, I think byes will stay. But perhaps it's a feature we can re-evaluate with the rest of the players during the off season. :)

DAY 02 EDITION

Lesson learned by about 1/3 of our players: Never count a home girl out. To the dismay of 24, #16 seed Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na, If I were a Rich Girl...) Li was unceremoniously dumped by unheralded Canadian Wildcard Marie-Eve Pelletier today. This certainly spices up the race for #1, as our Top 2 ranked players Slokid - who unfortunately is looking more and more like Nadia Petrova with each passing day - and Zauber were sent packing. SpikeyAidenM must be pleased with this news and be ready to pounce.

That being said, apparently getting a "shout out" in the Suicide Bulletin appears to be the kiss of death. 8 out of the 12 people I mentioned lost by Day 02 (Sorry Aidan for mentioning you then!). Whoops. :p Umm let's see who's ranked above me so I can screw them over too. Just kidding. WELLNOTREALLYCEZECAPRIATIRULES ;)

Day 03 matches are up and ready to go. But if you've taken anything out of the last two days, you must remember that "obvious" pick may not be so obvious after all. Viva La Prattisauraus, we say!

Suicide Bulletin

DAY 03 EDITION

Phew. I don't know about you, but I am positively out of breath following Nicole Pratt's inspiring come from behind win over Canadian Wildcard Marie-Eve Pelletier. That Nicole Pratt, star that pony folks, for the US Open. I think she's gonna be a Top 50 player someday. Of course, matches like these take on added significance when it's one's life at stake her. Tonight we had two of our unseeded talents going at it - Vianzfzf in the Pratalicious corner, whilst Andrew_Uk was on Team Pelly. It looked like Andrew might take it tonight, but alas, Pratty stabbed him in the back. Literally. The drama never stops here, folks!

Umm, and memo to Benjiboy who picked Clijsters! You know, I try to offer little helpful tidbits and facts to assist you with your picks, but do they listen!!! I said to never count a homegirl out! And S-Dub really hit you hard tonight! Okay, nevermind the fact Kim injured her wrist and then freaking fell on it, but still! HEED MY WORDS PEOPLE!!! So, watch out for Dubois tomorrow! Or wannabe homegirls like the Decher. She's sneaky like that.

Day 04 OOP out! Aidan is still alive; can he make a run for the Top rank in time for the US Open? OH THE SUSPENSE!

Randriantastic!

I'm out of breath too, but I think I've been sneezing too much, is why. That Prattster, Leesh is doing wonders for her, I tell you, WONDERS! It's like Tennising With The Stars where Pratty is the Star and Leesh is the Professional. Todd McKenney/(insert appropriate American judge in lieu) would be proud. Oh the proudness! ;)

Dear MH0816, in case i win this game do i get any v-cash??? On MTF, winners were given a lot of v-cash.

Yikes this tournament is getting tougher

hmmm...

This is quite tough to master. I used to play it on MTF. There is always a possibility of winning. I remember five people won last year in TMS Madrid. It is really a fun game
