RULES AND INFORMATION:
Predict the scores of matches from all the rounds and get points on how
close you were to the correct score.
Making Predictions
Each tournament you must predict the score of WTA matches for that
tournament. Based on the size of the WTA Draw, you will have to pick so
many from each round. Now, the only predictions that you ABSOLUTELY
MUST MAKE are from the first round. After the first round, you may make as
few, or the maximum number in each round. So, if you forget to do round 2,
you're not out, just make some for the QF's or SF's or etc.
NUMBER OF PREDICTIONS:
64 Player Draw:
1st Round: max 9 predictions
2nd Round: max 7 predictions
3rd Round: max 5 predictions
Quarterfinal: max 3 predictions
Semifinal: 2 predictions
Final: 1 Prediction
SCORING POINTS
Now, for the points. For each match you predict, you will get points based on
how accurately you predict the match. Here is a list of all the points you can get:
Correct winner, set #, and all scores: 35 points
(ex: your prediction: davenport d. sharapova 3-6, 7-5, 6-2. actual score:
3-6, 7-5, 6-2)
Correct winner, set #, set scores, but the sets were in the wrong order:
25 points
(ex: your prediction: davenport d. sharapova 6-2, 3-6, 7-5. actual score:
3-6, 7-5, 6-2)
Correct winner, set #, and one set score: 20 points
(ex: your prediction: davenport d. sharapova 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. actual score:
3-6, 7-5, 6-2)
Correct winner, set #, and two set scores: 23 points
(ex: your prediction: davenport d. sharapova 3-6, 7-5, 6-1. actual score:
3-6, 7-5, 6-2)
Correct winner and correct set #, but no scores correct: 15 points
(ex: your prediction: davenport d. sharapova 6-0, 4-6, 6-3. actual score:
3-6, 7-5, 6-2)
Correct winner, incorrect set #, and 1 set score correct: 12 points
(ex: your prediction: davenport d. sharapova 7-5, 6-0. actual score:
3-6, 7-5, 6-2)
Correct winner, incorrect set #, and 2 set scores correct: also 12 points
(ex: your prediction: davenport d. sharapova 7-5, 6-2. actual score:
3-6, 7-5, 6-2)(this is also 12 points because the set # are incorrect..so
basically correct winner but incorrect set # gets you 12 points)
Incorrect winner (scores and set # do not matter): 0 points
(ex: your prediction: sharapova d. davenport 6-3, 5-7, 6-1. actual score:
davenport d. sharapova 3-6, 7-5, 6-2. even though you got 2 set scores
right and the # of sets, it doesn't matter cause your winner is wrong.)
After each round I will update the standings with the points you
receive for your picks. At the end of the tournament, you will receive ranking
points based on where you are in the rankings. The ranking points you get will be based on the Ranking Points the WTA Players receive for the round they make.
The actual rankings will be calculated after each tournament, and will
be done like the WTA Rankings(except the fact that all tourneys you play in count). They will run on a 12 month system, and you will lose points exactly 12 months after you gain them if you do not defend them. This will help keep the game close and more realistic. There will also be Race Rankings, which will be accumulated from the first tournament up until the last tournament before the YEC. The top 8 will make the YEC. After the Year-End Championships, the points will reset and everyone will start the next year from 0.
No need to sign up, just make your first round picks to be eligible to play!! Good luck!!

before Wimbledon you (and maybe I^^Lindsay) speak about some changes in PTS score system... for example this pick deserve more than 25 pts (Rodionova won 4-6 6-3 7-5). True reason because we all here hunt only 2-0 potential matches/scores is because no extra stimulation for 2-1 pick risk!
In tennis we have 49 various 2-0 results, and 686 :help: various 2-1 results (at GS even more, because no TB in 3rd set!), and also in tennis we have 2-0 result about 50% often than 2-1...
Maybe is best time for this changes is start of new 2007 season - this is my advice... think about this  .

i know, we were thinking about changing point systems but we havent come up with anything great yet. Our original goal was maybe the us open series, but since we have not yet come out with one it is probly the best to just start 2007 like that. But we need a new point system first, and I would like to keep it as simple as possible. All ideas are welcome. I was thinking that maybe giving point values for certain matches could be an option. Like matches that are obviously not clear cut winner, or picking an upset would give you more points. But I dont want to make it to much like other games here. Also I was thinking making some of the tougher to predict matches mandatory picks. And then you get a certain amount to predict on your own. But this can all be worked out. Again, we welcome any ideas and are more than happy to hear your opinions, good or bad :D

how about this? Just set it up based on points.... easier to understand:
If you get the correct winner, you get 10 points
If you have the correct set #, you get 5 points
For each set score, you get 5 points (a correct set score means that you have the winner of the set correct as well as the score. However, it does not have to be in the correct spot. So, if you guess the score would be 6-3, 6-4 and it was 6-2, 6-3 you would still get 5 points for the 6-3 (cause the score was right and the winner), even though it was in the wrong spot. You would get 20 points for that pick)
Perfect 2 set prediction is 35 points
Perfect 3 set prediction is 45 points
So, if you go for a 3 set match and get 3 sets correct, you get 30 points. If you only went for a 2 set match, you could only get 2 sets correct so you would only get 25 points.
It's possible we could change the points values a little.. but i thought about this for a while and those points make the most sense... what do you think? This way, you would be benifited for predicting 3 sets, but we would also keep the game original, and we would not have to have points for predicting upsets....
Anyway, tell me what you think! :)

Here is some of my thinking about new PTS scoring system with only 4 simple and clear rules:
1) Correct WINNER - 10 pts.
2) For each correct SET SCORE - 4 pts (always!).
3) For correct #SET - #SET x 3 pts (6 pts for 2-0 and 9 pts for correct 2-1).
4) Perfect score bonus - 10 pts.
That means (all theoretical cases projections):
Perfect score in three sets - 10P+3x4P+3x3P+10P = 41 pts
Perfect score in straight sets - 10P+2x4P+2x3P+10P = 34 pts
Correct winner, #SET, and 3 set scores - 10P+3x4P+3x3P = 31 pts
Correct winner, #SET, and 2 set scores - 10P+2x4P+3x3P = 27 pts (for correct 2-1 win)
Correct winner, #SET, and 2 set scores - 10P+2x4P+2x3P = 24 pts (for correct 2-0 win)
Correct winner, #SET, and 1 set score - 10P+1x4P+3x3P = 23 pts (for correct 2-1 win)
Correct winner, #SET, and 1 set score - 10P+1x4P+2x3P = 20 pts (for correct 2-0 win)
Correct winner and #SET - 10P+3x3P = 19 pts (for correct 2-1 win)
Correct winner and #SET - 10P+2x3P = 16 pts (for correct 2-0 win)
Correct winner and 2 set scores - 10P+2x4P = 18 pts
Correct winner and 1 set scores - 10P+1x4P = 14 pts
Correct winner = 10 pts
Incorrect winner but 2 correct set scores - 2x4P = 8 pts
Incorrect winner but 1 correct set score - 1x4P = 4 pts
Incorrect winner without correct set score = 0 pts
ADVANCES of this scoring system is (IMO):
1) With clear rules is always easy to calculate scores for each match than search them in some tabele.
2) With "Extra stimulations" for players to pick 2-1 picks this game will be more interesting and justly:
- 3 pts more for all correct 2-1 scores than 2-0.
- More oportunity to pick some correct set score (3/2 chances instead 2/2 when you predict 2-1 instead 2-0 when your fav win 2-1/2-0, and 2/1 instead 1/0 chances to pick correct set score for incorrect winner when your fav lose 2-1/2-0).
Of course, without changes like this PTS will be still good game :wavey: .

i hate tournaments in california :(. Because of the time zone, the matches aren't finished when i have free time, so i have to wait till they're done. I didn't have any time at all yesterday, but today i'll do them after the first two rounds

THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO USE YOUR REPLACEMENT PICKS!
The following people still have replacement picks to make (came from retirements in earlier rounds):
the points for winner and runner-up will be averaged and we will each get that amount ;)
only fair way to do it and ive done it like that in the past for other ties
congrats meelis!! :D
but perhaps in the future maybe we should institute a tiebreaker...something like whoever got more perfect picks or something like that maybe
