I have my doubts about Makiri pulling a win out of this especially with her current form, but I hope she makes this as tight as she can.

She always gets hard draws. Playing Serena is enough, but on a US hard court. Poor Makiri. I hope its as good as their Roland Garros match.

2-6 1-6 :( :( :(

This is awful!!

She really needs a new coach NOW!!!

Her father knows nothing of Tennis, and is the source of her poor form IMO.

Worst loss of the year in my view. Just terrible. Lets hope she fares better in the doubles to give her some sort of confidence...

I didnt see the match so I cant say, but ppl who did emailed too say they thought Maria made Williams look better than she really is.

I agree 100% a good run in the doubles with Ana might boost her confidence. She sure needs a lift right now.

Her loss against JHH was worse.

It was expected really, right now, and it's sad to admit, but Makiri shouldn't be in the top 50, and soon if she continues like this she'll be exiting it soon

"But Maria's success is being threatened by a bitter off-court dispute over her future prize money after her ambitious father dumped her coach of five years. Devastated former pro Elena Bryukhovets, 35, has vowed to sue Maria's parents for a slice of her future earnings. She said: "Her family terminated my contract without explanation. I was dead to them. Whenever I called, they would see my number on their screen and refuse to pick up the phone."

This is whats caused her loss of form, and I think confidence as well.I just hope it gets sorted out soon.

Yuri K is just as bad as Yuri S :fiery: , but Yuri S hasn't ruined his daughter's career!

I doubt it. The article has been around for a while, no? And she split with Elena B a long time ago. Yes it could be a distraction having this dispute but I doubt it's the main cause of her loss of form.

"Yes it could be a distraction having this dispute but I doubt it's the main cause of her loss of form."

Maybe your right. But maybe its the lack of a good coach thats the problem. It could be that its just catching up with her. I think she is at a stage in her career where she needs a top quality coach, to help develope her game.

But as money seems to be a factor in all this, I dont see it happening. Look what the LTA are paying for Brad Gilbert :(

Getting rid of Elena isn't the issue here. That happened just over a year ago. Maria had a good run post US Open last year. The problem is that her father won't hire her a new coach after Taylor left to become the Fed Cup coach for Australia. Maria needs guidance here. She is still a youngster. She really needs someone to bring the best out of her, to get her confidence up. If you look at her recent photos, Maria looks so sad. She needs something positive to happen to bring her spirits up. Her dad obviously can't bring her spirits up. So he needs to back the hell off and hire her a coach. It nearly breaks my heart to see Maria so sad and to continue losing like this. Something needs to be done. I ask everyone who watches her play in person in upcoming events to be positive towards and to encourage her greatly. Let her know that you still believe in her. Someone has to try and lift her spirits so Kirilenko fans, we have to do it.

Will you be at the US Open again this year? :)
I hope you can get a good look at her game and maybe even understand her situation (by watching her matches/pratice) more if you're attending again.

BTW, and I am not trying to downplay her "slump", but if you look at the schedule for the quarters to be played today in LA you will note the names of the last two ladies to have beaten Masha. Personally, I am happy for Williams. There is not much doubt that when Serena is healthy and motivated she is a top 10 player. And her chances of winning today and making the semis are pretty good. As for the Jankovic match, I will be rooting for Masha's doubles partner!
