View Full Version : Is the return of Hingis good for tennis?

Aug 4th, 2006, 02:16 PM
In January, Martina Hingis returned from the tour after a long absence. She had retired in 2002, saying that it was an injury. However, deep in our hearts we knew that she was being driven out of the game by power players.
In January, she announced she would return to the tour. Some people expected her to fail. Even the creator of the baseline clones, Nick Bolletierri thought she couldn't make a successful return.
Hingis had returned. She was stronger, more powerful and bought a new dimension to the tennis court. There were very few players left on the tour like here. Over the years off retirement, she had become stronger. After receiving a WC into the Australian Open, she faced Vera Zvonareva. Hingis won convincingly and is now reaching the uper-bounds of the game again.

Question: Did she do the right thing by coming back?

she showed that there's more to tennis than big babes whacking balls...she's a class all by herself....

I wonder if she is the current player actually playing on tour with the most singles titles, since davenport is out for now. Martina has 42 (Davenport has 51)
