What do you think about players like Nadia (before injury), Patty and ElenaD who play every week?

Elena doesn't play every week!

ALG and Patty on the other hand....I think their ranking is a little inflated
I don't see any problem with it except when the player is often injured

i have no problem with it
theres no reason they cant

but when your like alg and taped up like a mummy before every match it might be best to skip a few of the smaller ones

If you're healthy enough to, go ahead. Chances are those players aren't winning a LOT of matches week in and week out, so it makes sense to play a lot. There's also rumors going around about players who play every week because they... *looks to see no one is listening* ...they like tennis *gasp*!

i find it annoying-players dont need to play every week like ALG and in the long term it does them more harm than good

If they are healthier than rest of the tour. kudos to them for their fitness when some most of the tour is in hospital. They are the one earning money for the tour.

As long as they're not hurting themselves then I'm all for it. People who complain about inflated rankings are just pissed off that their favorite isnt higher ranked.

It bothers me b/c several of these players are on the fast track to burnout... Then again they may play every week, but that may only consist of 2 matches or so. Someone like Davenport or Sharapova couldn't possibly play every week since they consistently play finals.. so I could see either side of it. It's every player's personal decision and nothing I think will change it.

Lena D does not play every week.

"Playing every week" means playing 25 or more tournies per year. Lena D plays about 20.

as far as Petrova and Schnyder, last i checked, people who work more get paid more. So for those who are physically healthy enough, it's not a bad idea to play a lot of events.

ElenaD is playing her 13th tournament of the year. Second in top 10 after Patty (tied with Nadia)

no one tops davydenko on atp side, I don't know if he has missed a week this year and I don't even wanna know if he ever gets sex let alone rest :help: On wta side, I am thinking ALG and Patty.

I think these players just want to be away from home for whatever reason and like to travel

Eh, if they can stay healthy. Personally it's a little annoying and scary cuz we all know Patty Schyder should not be in the top 8, especially over Hingis, but then I'm not gonna go complaining about it because it's her right to play as much as she wants. Other players will just either have to play more or play better. Hopefully Martina can stay healthy too and rack up 18-19 tournaments before the YEC. She needs to make it there. If she doesn't, I'll cry.

I just hope they don't burn themeselves out

Its good for their fans ;)

But sometimes i am a little annoyed to see certain players climbing the rankings just because of the sheer number of tournaments they contest.

13 is not that many events, it's on pace for about 20-21 for the year.

Petrova missed 4 events because of injury, otherwise she would be right up there with Patty, Jankovic and Groenfeld at 17.

This is what I think as well.
It seems like they are just asking to get hurt, and as you get your body gets older it cannot recover as quickly so these players that play 20+ tournaments in a season are walking a fine line. And if you're fatigued you have a better chance of getting hurt too.
But they make their schedules, so it's up to them, and a risk that they take. But it could still hurt their careers in the long run.

Iveta played 16 tournamnets, 18 including Fed Cup. :tape: That's way too much. Now she can't wins a match against low ranked Italians  .

I think when you play less tournamnets, you will be more motivates to do well. Because you know you will not play every week to get rankings points.

But it's depends on the Schedule. If you play in Asia in automn, it's all "near" so why not. But never dolike Benesova did in 2005 : she lost in AO, she went in Prague training and she come back in Tokyo the next week :tape:

I hate it when Petrova overplays because I'm tired of her being injured. The elite shouldn't need to play every week but the smaller players usually go out earlier so it probably works for them to sustain a reasonable ranking.

If they can stay healthy then I see no problem with someone playing every week.

It doesnt bother me in a way because most of the time when they run into the top players that dont play every week they end up losing the only thing that does bother me though is how so many people want to make it seem like they are one of the best to ever play the game because they are ranked high so often when really they are only ranked high because they play a lot more and 7 or 8 tier I and II quarters ends up being more than 1 or 2 titles so it just depends

What?ElenaD is not playing every single week?

Last year, it was kind of pathetic. She played Filderstat then Moscow then Zurich then Linz then Philie and finally the MASTERS in a row!!!7 tourneys in a row! Do you realize a little bit! So I think the thread posters didn't forget that :o ;)

But this year she doesn't play that much, it's quite true :)
