too good from ana! well done, and keep going!

amy  42% serving and 7 double faults is pretty ridiculous.

the match really could have been a lot closer. i have a feeling amy is a little tired with the tennis she's played the last three days, and she served miserable. it could have been much closer.

Better luck next time Amy

Ana's stats are really good.
78% 1st serves won.
8 aces... 5 DFs
5/7BPs converted
51% 1st serves in... (could have been higher here ;) )

Well done! :bounce:

oh, yes they can. i'm an elena fan and root for her all the time, but some of her fans on this site pick her to win every match, every tournament.

Ana get your first serve percentage up and cut down the double faults. I don't see anyone except a couple players beating you then.

i am aware of that, but most fans do that. in general, elena is often losing 'who will win?' polls to the likes of shahar peer, elena likovtseva, shenay perry, etc. maybe it's that ivanovic is underrated, but this match really didn't ever seem like it would be anything but a route for ana.

Ana raced to 5-0 in the 1st and 4-0 lead in the 2nd so it was hardly close

In the olden days of 2004, yes, but now...I'm not sure. Amy needs to dictate play in order to win. She could dictate against Golovin because, if you notice, Tati serves hard, but really safely (far away from the lines, basically to a player's backhand or forehand, doesn't make the opponent move often.) Amy has a good enough return that, without having to move, she can take control of the point. Tati then doesn't have enough raw power, or at least enough confidence in her raw power, to wrestle control back. Unfortunately, Tati also doesn't feel comfortable just using her speed and natural consistency to win matches, and that forces her to take dumb risks at the wrong time. Also, Golovin does not return ferociously. She just gets balls in and fairly deep, but does not crush returns.

Ana serves close to the lines on both deliveries. She crushes returns. Ana loses matches because she runs up against an even bigger server/returner, which Amy is not, or because she runs against someone who can wrestle control away from her with speed and then put away shots with power (Clijsters, Kuznetsova, Mauresmo to some extent.) Amy cannot run very well. Amy just doesn't play well against power players. Ana plays very well against them, because Ana hits harder than just about anyone.

Ana has a shot at the semi-finals. I personally think she will beat Petrova, and she has beaten Nicole before, though I would still give Nicole the edge there. Still...the quarters or the semis should be expected.

Great match..

Her problem this year has been crushing her 1st and 2nd round opponents and then choking in the later rounds and not because she was outplayed but because of her own mistakes.

Lets go Ana in the next round!!

Not too surprised, Amy  Ana does everything Amy does, but better so unless she's hitting error after error it's going to always be difficult.
