Well, it`s hard to define what 'best forehand' means..the most powerful?the most accurate?the most reliable?..perhaps the combination of all those things. It`s up to you how you combine it..and say who has the best forehand out of these five players..

Definitely LenaD!!!! :worship:

Dementieva can hit the most outrageous CC winners off her FH so im picking her

I had to vote for Sveta. I`m a huge fan of Lena but the FH shots I`ve seen from Sveta were more incredible...not all shots. Lena has hit a lot of excellent forehands too. But those from Sveta were a bit better...

But Lena can hit the ball very hard. I think when she has a good day she can reach Sveta!

Yes she can..actually when she has a good day she can reach Sveta`s high standard. But when Sveta has a good day she can produce the fastest forehand, very powerful...
..but it`s not all about power, maybe Lena`s FHs are more accurate..

btw. It`s all pretty tied so far :bounce:

Why is Sharapova on the list, her FH is prone to breakdown look at the 4th round at Wimbledon this yr against Pennetta she was making a ton of errors off it, not in the same league technique wise on that FH as the others

I heard she holds the record of speed of a shot in WT..FH of course..
her FH is good enough to be in the list

i dont think because she's hit the fastest FH's that merits her to be on the list, if you went by that credentials you could put Venus and Serena on the list too, im sure overall they hit the fastest forehands, i think Pierce should be on the list over Sharapova

well id ahve to say after watching the elena maria match at this years quater final at wimby and at indian wells this year i think i know who has the better forehand! lol you deserved that! sorry! marias forehand is known to break down but when on form can be fabulous it depends what form and what confidence she has, although i would probably say svetlana has the best then kim then maria

Mary Pierce when she's on, her forehand is very very ferocious.

From the list, Davenport imo.

I think Marys forehand is the best but out of the list I think Lindsay. She has great rist work and timing. It is always reliable unlike Svetlanas, Marias and Elena whose forehand sides are inconsistent.

Dementieva.

her inside out forehand is :worship: :worship: (re: USO SF vs. Capriati)

Why is kim on this list? Her forehand is a liability.

I'd say LenaD....she can smack the most amazing winners off that side.

Clijsters has the most consistantly good forehand out of those mentioned. That for me constitutes the best because it's very powerful and reliable. Sveta is way too hit and miss so I would put Davenport second.

I agree 100%... but out of this i vote Lindsay (Sveta is No2).

If Maria should be taken off the list because her forehand breaks down, then so should Kim. Remember those 2003 finals against Justine? What about last year's RG R16 against Lindsay. She couldn't keep a forehand in the court at certain points. Even when they played a few weeks later at Wimbledon the forehand became a liablility late in the 3rd set. When Kim gets tight, the forehand is usually the shot that leaves her. One major exception being her qf against Martina at OZ this year where she couldn't hit a backhand.

Wow, tough call between Kim, Lindsay and Svetlana. Kim's is MOST accurate overall when she is ON. Lindsay's is heavy and deep, when ON. and Svetlana's is the most powerful when she is ON.

The winner is Svetlana so far. Should I close this poll(Is it possible at all?) :)

Lena. Because her serve is so lacking, she's made up for it in her groudies, especially on her forehand side, great pace and placement.

Not for anything, but that's a bad list :o. Sharapova and Clijsters forehands can be good at times, but are usualy decent for the most part.

And the best forehand in the game is missing, Mary Pierce :worship:.

If you are going to put Kim and Maria, why not Venus and Serena  ? People (Mary Carillo  ) say that Serena's forehand technique is so bad but I don't see it. Venus has some off-forehand days but when it is on it is one of the best.

I think Serena's FH technique is very good especially back in 2002-2003

When Sveta is on, she has the best forehand. However, she can become quite inconsistent.

So I voted Lindsay :)

as for my list, I will put Serena second to her then those list will follow.

Sveta's my pick.
Svetlana's forehand is the modern forehand at its best. She powers that stroke from her thick legs, open stance and lets it rip. You can tell from the way she hits the shot that she trained in Spain.
She gets good topspin on the shot and the ball has a lot of action on it.
Her inside-out forehand can be massive (not just in terms of speed but speed and spin; like the men's forehand) and this is why I chose her.

It was close between Sveta and Lindsay though because Lindsay epitomizes the classic forehand. Classic grip (between eastern and semi-western), step in, extend through to target and then finishes above the shoulder. Technique wise it is perfect and clean but the shot off your racquet doesn't have that much action on it (though it may be fast), it bounces right in the strike zone of your opponents who can tee off your pace and these balls are easier to volley off of.
Edge to Sveta.

Sharapova is close as well. When she steps in and swings through the ball she can really kill it.
My issue is she hits way too many over-the-head forehands. Those shots are harder to control and easier to mess up. You can pull up on those shots easier and as a result send your ball long (which happens to her quite a bit).

Clijsters, the one thing I like about her forehand is the way she hits the shoulder high forehand. You would think she has a western grip the way she kills them!

I concur with those that said Mary Pierce should've been included. Her forehand can be  .

Dunlop1
Aug 1st, 2006, 08:43 PM
Serena and Venus (as good as they are) cannot be included in any 'best forehands' poll because their technique is flawed. It's all over the place. They pull up on their forehands way too much.

I think Davenport probably does because she has a lot of power but still keeps the errors down most of the time. Kuznetsova has the best in terms of damage she can do with the forehand but has some terrible days error wise. Same for Lena.

Serena and Venus (as good as they are) cannot be included in any 'best forehands' poll because their technique is flawed.

Kim and Maria's forehands aren't exactly technical beauties either

Mary Pierce should definitely be put on the list instead.

mirza's forehand is a beauty. it may be inconsistant but is the hardest hit forehand and is beautifully executed. watch her both matches against kuznetsova and u can see her hitting it better than sveta. in this list:

1. sveta
2. lena
3. lindsay
4. kim
5. maria

1.Lindsay - the best technique, the best accuracy, very reliable, very powerful
2.Maria - same as Lindsay but her technique is not as superior
3.Sveta - too many ue
4.Elena - robotic shot, when she's on she's like a machine, but overall it's more reliable than accurate or technically correct, she's not using her wrist at that shot:help:
5.Kim - very erratic, tends to hit it late, her backhand is her main strenght
