again - straightfoward.

#3. martina hingis forehand - not as world class as her backhand? sure. nonetheless, when she takes it early, she hits it with a great amount of accuracy and spin. her forehand down the line is every bit as good as her backhand down the line.

#2. kim clijsters' backhand - few people mention how good of a backhand she has. a very fluid motion produces a powerful, consistent stroke that is preferable to her forehand in my opinion. she's very strong off her back leg, and so she can hit great defensive backhand winners.

#1. serena williams' backhand - for all the talk about her forehand and her serve, her backhand is often overlooked. she can hit delicate, short angles better than anyone this side of the swiss miss, and of course she has great power on this side, too. dare i say, i prefer her backhand over her sisters'.

of course, these are just MY opinions  nothing more, nothing less. so what shots do you think are underrated?

Serena's BH is not underrated, its better than her FH, if your looking for errors from Serena they often come from the FH

Sveta's serve
Sveta's backhand
Dementieva's serve (i know, i know but its so much better than it was and i think now its underrated)
Vaidisova's backhand (everyone talks about her forehand-but i think her backhand is better)
Pennetta (in general shes underrated)

I would like to think Amelie's serve. During Wimbledon it seemed like even the commentators were surprised on how much pace she was putting on it.

In a way it is because it does not produce the same spectacular winners or produces winners at will like her forehand. Nevertheless, she can come up with some fabolous angles with that backhand, especially on the return of serve.

I totally agree! Hingis can get overpowered on the forehand side but when she has time her forehand down the line is wicked.

I would add Venus forehand while it is her most vulnerable stroke it too can be quite spectacular when she's given pace on that side, she tends to spit pace with even more pace when they try to just overpower her with just pace going to her forehand.

I still like Venus backhand better than Serena's it's so much more fluid and her preparation is just incredible, she has such early preparation on the backhand side. :worship:

Kim's backhand is her money shot it's the shot that win's her matches, her forehand can create the big winners but it too accounts for about 70% of her errors.

While I do agree that Venus has a better backhand than Serena, I think Serena's mechanics are must better than Venus'. Venus just is steadier hitting it.

But I think Serena's slice is extremely underrated. Probably cuz she rarely ever hits it

Are you serious? Nikki's forehand is easily better than her backhand.

patty schnyder's serve. she gets tremendous pace and spin on it, creating a lot of aces and very few double faults.

Daniela's volleys - I think very few realize how good of a volleyer she is.

Serena's backhand isn't a better "weapon", just a more consistent stroke. Her forehand is her true weapon, the winners she can hit with that thing are

I agree, which is why her BH is definately underrated. When she gets a good smack on it, she sort of lunges forward off the ground with her teeth bared, it's great.

I also agree with Hingis and her forehand. I was just watching her 1999 USO SF against Venus, and she spanked some forehands, especially inside out. Not to mention her forehand approach shot dtl is killer.

YES! She can do so much with it and it is more powerful this year when she wants it to be!

Lindsay's volleys. She's got the best volleying technique out of anyone on tour, even Mauresmo.

agreed, when she gets to net, she knows what she's doing and is rather good at it, she is such a power baseliner this part of her game is often ignored.

Yes Davenport is excellent usually at putting away volleys. She really gives them a great cut and point over.

Daniela Hantuchova indeed has very soft hands and her volleys are very good. She sometimes falls prey to trying to be too cute with the drop volley and drop shot.

Maria's movement. Her movement is quite good while most ppl seem to compare her to davenport. she's much quicker than the likes of davenport and pierce.

Also dementieva' backhand its much more consistent than her forehand. she rarely hits bad errors with it and its always very deep and well placed.

I'm sorry but your post has made me laugh. I`m laughing terribly. How many matches of Lena have you ever seen?
Much more consistant??Maybe because she doesn`t risk from the backhand side as much as from the FS. Rarely???Her bad errors are mainly backhands.Easy backhand shots(mainly in past) but in her match against Safina at this year`s Rome you could see a plenty of easy backhand errors..
well placed..I would say her forehand shots are well placed. She usually hits much more forehand winners than backhand winners.

If Lena`s backhand was as you described,do you think Myskina would use the tactic ''all shots to Lena`s backhand''? The tactic worked in lots of matches..
Lena`s BH is not as dangerous for players as her FH...

IMO.The most underrated shots are: Sveta`s backhand- it`s so solid...more than just solid. She has great forehand but players can not rely that she will make mistakes from her BH because it is not a weak side of her..
Sveta`s serve(very good in RG final..she served very nice kick serves to JHH`s BH)

Patty`s serve.Great motion,placement..good number of aces...DFs only when her psychic is down..

Myskina's BH
IMO it belongs to the top3 BH

....anyway her whole game is underrated!!!

Ive seen tons of lena matches she's like my fave. of course her bh is less dangerous than her fh, just like 90% of players, but sincerely we must not have seen the same matches cause in the ones i saw, she was really solid on that side barely missing, and mostly hitting it very deep and unattackable. Her forehand will hit more winners and impressive shots but many ppl make it sound as if her fh was outstanding and her bh a liability when its much more balanced than that.

Lindsays volleys - she's one of the best volleyers out there
Krajiceks second serve - probably because not many have seen her but her second serve is very solid
Petrova - her game in general. People are quick to call her boring and what not..but all her shots are solid as a rock. Her forehand when on can be very consistent. I would put her above Elena and Myskina if she is fully developed.

Krajceks 2nd serve is solid coz she hits it really flat!!Well it costs her a few DFs for sure but she cant mix it up with kick or spin so still its a predictable shot in terms of ball bounce and after a while any pro will get used to it!!But she has a good serve nonetheless...If only she mix it up more..Would be deadly!!

Def. Schnyders serve. Its really very good :)

Hantuchova net play is very tough. She always has a winner ratio up there but a good bit.
