Excuse me, in your orginal post you referred to Zvonareva, Schnyder and Sugiyama.

If Coetzer isn't (wasn't) a top player, then those three sure as hell aren't. Coetzer was top 5 at one stage and reached multiple GS semifinals which none of those players achieved. She also won at tier 1 level, which only Patty has done. She spent large amounts of time in the top 10 between 1997 and 2001 and was a top 20 player for 10 straight seasons. Her career towers over the likes of Zvonareva, Schnyder and Sugiyama and is even better than Petrova's at this stage of the game.

Every player is owned by someone, there is not one player on tour today who hasn't lost a disproportionate amount of times to someone. All players have players they just don't match up well against.

As for Elena though, it may as well be 5-0 when you consider when Elena won her match :tape:

You cannot count the Dementieva rivalry because they only had 4 matches and Lena won the most important one, she does not own her, and you cant count the Sharapova rivalry because they only played one, and plus Capriati did drop a set to Shaughnessy at Miami 03 quaters, im not a fan and i know that

yes but if you read the original post, it says that an owning of a player is a 4 match difference in H2H which means Capriat doesnt own Lena or Sharapova

AlanaStarr

okay, i didnt read the whole thing, i apologise.

Sharapova was a joke. I thought it was cute...they met once and it was a good matchup, elena and jen have had great matchups as well...and i agree Elena is tough and a strong challenger and i would also agree that jen does NOT own her. In fact, they are very imilar in game styles and Jen simply has a more consistant game.

But Vera and Patty have both been in the top 10 recently. Ai, I agree maybe questionable but she has been known to give a few top players a fit when she is playing her best.

i would note, in addition, that coetzer is owned by all the top players, now. therefore, she would like appear in a lot of lists.
Venus owns her 8-1
Hingis owns her 10-2
Davenport owns her 13-3
Monica owns her 9-1
Kim owns her 4-0
etc., so it would seem that including her would be unnecessary, especially since she played best during another era and even then was convincingly dominated by the "other" top players.
