When I learned the recorder at school I managed to play Sur Le Pont D'Avignon and Little Brown Jug, and I thought I was fantastic. I thought I'd get a record deal. But I've been deliberately robbed by the likes of that Vanessa bitch who thinks she can play the violin, and Charlotte Church - voice of an angle my backside. They were just jealous and spread nasty rumours about me so no one would sign me.

I will have to think about this, but for sure the criteria MUST include someone who sings AND plays an instrument, preferably several instruments.

Prince

I'm not even a big fan of his, but I'd have to agree that its Prince.

He used to write the songs, play every instrument and produce the stuff not just for himself but also for all his little spin off groups (like The Time).

And when I saw him play at his induction into the Rock N Roll hall of fame...

......

...:worship:

Before Prince convinced me otherwise, my answer would have been Stevie Wonder for similar reasons. ;)

As far as voice, and being a diverse entertainer = Barbra Streisand
As far as on stage presence, who sends the whole crowd into a orbit = Liza Minnelli
Instrumental = Hendrix, Santana

So, in other words, you're eliminating most of the great jazz musicians. ;)

Dave Grohl (best known for being the: Foo Fighters lead singer and guitarist, Nirvana drummer and the Queens Of The Stoneage drummer).

Joe Satriani (one of the best guitarists ever and he also sings)

Elton John (just because its elton john :p he's a musical legend)

Craig Nicholls (lead singer, guitarist and songwriter of The Vines. This is a massive accomplishment considering he is always pissed and stoned when he plays and he still manages to do an awesome job)

Daniel Johns: (lead singer, guitarist and song writer of Silverchair. His been through so much shit and also has the best male voice ever)

modren day singers, i like alicia keys and tori amos. a non-instrument playing singer i think is fantastic is mariah, and of course whitney.

but then again, my knowledge of music isn't all that vast.

Prince? :haha:

Streisand? :haha:

Cobain? :haha:

Beethoven, without question.

Composers like Motzart, Bach, Beethoven more or less transcended music, Haydn, Handel and the ones above, were really the first "recorders" of music. though I like personally alot of Bach's and Motzarts music, I find it fascinating that Beethoven composed alot of his music taking into he consideration he would never hear it, because he was completely deaf!!

Theres to many genre's styles and eras of music to label just one person "the greatest" IMO :wavey:
