I saw the first part today, it was on Dodo birds. I became extremely upset after it I wish they were still here

It was really interesting how it was the non-native animals (rather than human hunting, which was the popular myth) that drove the birds to extinction. Particularly the farm pigs that were freed and invaded the forests. Since the birds were flightless, their eggs on the forest floor were raided by the pigs!

But I find hope in that we can still try to prevent the same thing happening to many of the species still with us today.

I think it was a channel 4 show...not enitrely sure though...

It was a good, interesting show, but ultimately a bit depressing, knowing the animal in question was doomed...

The BBC show 'Walking with Beasts' (the sequel to Walking with Dinosaurs) is very good too, very well done.

I thought it was brilliant....

These poor birds had no natural predators....
But they could defend themselves and be quite aggresive contrary to popular beleif that the birds were docile and slow-witted. Because the had no predators they had no need to hide their eggs or defend them... or to fly so when the pigs came and ate them all up the birds were helpless! .... and because of the lack of any predators on the island the birds had no need to breed fast .... so they had like one baby every two years! then slowly raised it as there was no need to rush the breeing season! or produce a mass of chicks!~ There was no need to run fast because there was nothing to chase them! .... these poor birds were a victim of the evolutionary cycle!

apparently Dodo brids tasted like crap so they were not hunted to extinction by the dutch - contrary to populary beleif again!

They were descirbed as cocky and proud by the dutch who aknowleged the damage they could cause with their fierce beaks... shame they are extinct!

Stupid pigs

Vixen it was the humans' fault for introducing the pigs

I've seen Walking with beasts now too, it's excellent :)

Programme called "Extinct" thought it was about Annabel Croft's career.
