Wimbledon has been on for an hour and I have seen one match so far on ESPN. If HBO was still carrying the Championships I would have seen glimpses of maybe 6-7 match already.

Folks I know it's about money and ratings and that probably nobody wants to see Katie O'Brien against Tatiana Garbin..........but it do!!!!!!!!!!!!

HBO please get back Wimbledon!!!!!!!

Forgot to mention NO COMMERCIALS. And coverage started from 1st match of the day to last match like USA coverage of the US Open.

And the commentators-- John Lloyd was great, and they all knew to SHUT UP when the point was in progress. (Although you had to put up with Jim "Stick to Football" Lampley as host.)

Even TNT's coverage was much, much better than this.

Shame ESPN will soon pick up the US Open, too. :(

^ What? People who actually knew what they were talking about? OMG!

I was watching an Aussie televised version of the Serena/Sharapova Heavyweight Battle, and Martina is FAR AND AWAY a MUCH better commentator than Mary....players KNOW are the best ones....none of this Ted Robinson crap.

You are right and that is because Martina, ZIna and Billie Jean actually got to be apart of TNT coverage at that time.

ESPN is officially getting the US Open? I know it was in the works, I didn't know it was official.

I agree with the HBO thoughts. When a sport is on a network that is not ESPN, the channel savors it and handles it in a different way. On ESPN, tennis is given no respect and is often followed by drag racing or darts.

Hopefully ESPN does not get the US Open. :/

Agreed about Navvy--but Garrison was a HORRIBLE commentator!! I'll never
forget the time she interviewed Sampras and asked him, "Have you bitten
any ears lately?"!!!!!! Good God, ya'll!!!

Oh those were the good old days. :hearts:

Even their wrap up show was great at 5pm. :hearts:

It was just matches, matches, matches....not any of this flashy shit where there talking about players who aren't even playing or you just could care less about. Shrug:

I'll be sooooooo upset if ESPN wins the bid for the US Open. I hope the committee factors in more than just the money. Ok who am I kidding. :help: :rain:

I liked her in the booth more than interviewing people. I thought she had a dry wit like Carillo, but a little less abrasive. She wasn't boring like Shriver and Fernandez are.

:scared: @ the thought of ESPN getting the U.S. Open. I enjoy TNT's coverage very much. Please no!!!

I remember the extensive coverage of Wimbledon on HBO. It was constant tennis with none of the flashy stuff. ESPN has managed to butcher tennis coverage so far. How can they show the spelling bee while live tennis is going on?

I just paid the $20 bucks for Wimbledon Live instead of dealing with ESPN. It has already been totally worth it. I would never have gotten to see Katie O'Brien or Naomi Cavaday play on ESPN.

I miss watching Wimbledon when there wasn't scrolling graphic information/sports news at the bottom of the screen. When the entire picture was just the court and the score.

I wish the Tennis Channel could get some of the coverage, seriously. It's outrageous that they don't have any of Wimbledon. :-|

Perhaps sometime in the Future they will be allowed to have some coverage for the Grand Slams. It would be great to see.

Leif Sharif and Katrina Adams are not the most animated commentators but they are two of the most objective announcers that I have at least heard on TV.

And what is Wimbledon Live? I take it that is more available in Europe?
