View Full Version : TR: Venus won't play Fed Cup for US v. Belgium

Matthew Cronin reports in his blog for TennisReporters .net:

"This should come as no surprise to TennisReporters .net readers who read my piece on her during RG, but Venus Williams reiterated that she won't be playing Fed Cup against Belgium. Neither will Serena or Lindsay Davenport, which leaves captain Zina Garrison with Jamea Jackson and Jill Craybas against Kim Clijsters' club, which in my opinion, will not include Justine Henin-Hardenne"

Venus Loves Zina, BUT playing Fed Cup after Wimbledon last year really took its toll on Venus physically and hindered her in her hardcourt play.

I guess Belgium is into the Finals then!

Never expected any of those three to play fed cup .

well there goes the U.S.

It's only a done deal once Belgium announces its team. If both Kim and Justine don't play, then there it goes Belgium, not the US. I for one hope that at least one of them will.

Craybas and Shaughnessy :scared: :bolt: :p

Actually I was pretty sure Vee would decide to play for the US, especially since it is only a few matches, and it's on hardcourts! But, it's her deciscion, and maybe the C squad can surprise us again! Jamea is looking quite good>P

I agree with Venus. Last year I didn't think it was right that Venus play Fed Cup right after her incredible Wimbledon victory. I feel she played too much between Wimbledon, Fed Cup, World Team Tennis, and then Stanford. I really believe she overdid it last year. Good for Venus.

Good luck U.S. Team, you guys can do it! :yeah:

Venus, I think it is a good choice.

Kim said earlier she won't play if matches will be on clay.
But since Belgium decide to play on hard court, she will play.
I think Belgium will be in final :)
