no i doubt it this happened to maria too she was defending champion but did not start first on centre court as defending champion, so the tradion is kind of gone! i too was looking forward to seeing sharapova and venus play, now there we have some true grass quality players! but instead we get kim and justine! :(

they cant. there's a rule that any matches suspended is to be scheduled 2nd on the same court the next day

are you sure :p

in Berlin, on the day of the SF, the schedule was

1 Mauresmo v Hingis, to finish
2 Petrova v Li
3 Henin v winner of Mauresmo or Hingis

if there was a rule, then it would have been

1 Petrova v Li
2 Mauresmo v Hingis, to finish
3 Henin v Mauresmo or Hingis

Why start at 1? Why not 11 or even earlier? Bizarre, considering they have sooo much to catch up

The really funny thing is that I was looking at the weather forecast and London had like, perfect weather for the last 2 weeks . And Wimbledon begins, and the rain starts falling! Ppl in London must hate Wimbledon big time!!

That's what I would like to know!!! :fiery:

because the que starts at a certain time (9 ???) and the gates open at a certain time (11 ???)

if they try to move the schedule up, they will have to change the schedule for groundskeepers, ticket sellers, employees, etc.

Wimbledon will never budge with start times because they are tradition !!!

In 1991 when the full opening days rained out, schedule of the 2nd day started with the defending ladies' champion: (Navratilova's nailbiter win vs. Elna Reinach.)

I'm sick and tired of their tradition. There are times when common sense should prevail over tradition...

1. Getting a roof for CC.

2. Play matches on first Sunday.

3. Start play at 11:00am when they are behind schedule.

The only reason I think they don't start earlier is the grass and there being dew and moisture from the morning and needing it is dry out.

They should get rid of Middle Sunday, it's plain stupid. Certainly in tournament like Wimbledon where dthey need every single dry day to compete matches

It's smart to try and get all the men's matches in. It's no big deal for the women to play 2 days in a row because they're used to that in normal tournaments. However, the men are not used to having to play 2 days in a row when they are playing best of 5.
