View Full Version : Sometimes it's hard to get your head out of your butt...

Hey guys. I've been following tennis for so long and have been playing for a few years too, and I finally entered my first tournament last weekend, to participate in the Men's 3.5 Singles and Men's 8.0 doubles tournaments in South Dakota. I guess it was a nonsanctioned tournament but I registered on usta.com. I don't believe I am a 3.5 player, but in South Dakota I fit in pretty well. :lol:I was so nervous for my first singles match I was shaking and couldn't really breathe all that well, and lost 2-10. Because they were so far behind schedule (there was Juniors too and Womens) we played first to ten games, no advantage. I've never played this format before and it really threw me off. Before I knew it it was 0-5, and I managed to get the score to 2-5 before he ran away with it. I was so nervous at the begining of the match, during the first changeover I ran into the netpost and bruised by thigh pretty nicely. :o My opponent was about 25 years older than me, and was an opponent that I just don't want to play because his game was based on getting the ball back with all sorts of strange spin, and he had a funky slice serve that threw me off. He was also really nice and was all chatty during the match, so it was kind of hard to focus. I would rather not talk to my opponent I guess. :tape: Not to make excuses but I would have rather played a different opponent because they were more on my level I think. So I say I didn't get my head out of my butt, and when it finally emerged it was 2-9 and too late! ;) I'm hoping to enter another two tournaments this summer and see how they go. Hopefully next time I can actually move my feet and quit being so nervous!

Oh, and I just saw that my opponent won the tournament so I guess I don't feel too bad! Haha! :D

good luck in your next tournaments!

funny, but I read somewhere that Pete Sampras used to be so nervous would normally threw up before important matches, so you are no different! PS. I always had stomach problems before I play a tournament. So if you want to find me beofre my matches, you know where to look ;)
