The Aus team was robbed again in the World Cup 06 that penality was total BS the striker just fell over Lucas Neill there was no arm or leg really WTF was that about. I am an Italian aussie and I am ashamed that the game finished like that. The red card was also unjustifyed really FIFA whats going on with the decisions.

Anyways, I didn't see the match. It's a shame that Austrailia are out, but I do like Italy.

just like most of the referees this tournament.

obviously i'm delighted at the result :D but it was a soft penalty. Materazzi's red card was a crock of shit as well....

I was after Italy but I admit there should be no penalty...Like there should be no red card either, just yellow. I'm really sorry for Aussies, I wanted Italy to win (although if I was to accept the loss, I would do so only against Australia) but not like that. Amore Totti though

I also thought at first it was a penalty. It clearly wasn't when I saw the repeats, but the ref doesn't have those.

The players are really to blame. They try to deceive the refs way too much, it's not even cute anymore. Fifa should better punish the players afterwards. This Italian guy for instance should be suspended for a couple of games.

JDLover

How does it even it out one decision cost the AUS team the game the Italians had time to rectify the situation of the card and if it was a red card on the edge of box shouldnt it have been a penality to the AUS team

THIS WAS SCANDALOUS!!! THE AUSSIES WERE ROBBED HERE. Do these referees not know the reputation of some of the teams!
The Italian guy just let himself drop!

I could have lived with the fact that Australia got a regular goal against them in the last minute but this is a joke! I thought the referee was doing quite well until then and it was also a fair match. But he could just not give a penalty for something which was not a foul at all.

This match should have gone to prolongations and there they could have fought it out.

This World Cup has brought good football so far but the referees are crap!

I feel for the Aussies.
They have one consolation, the whole world has seen that they have heart! As a commentator on Dutch TV said: they are a positive acquisition for world football.

Referee's with Australia's matches:

1) Australia vs. Japan- that goal Japan scored was noooowhere near a goal and even the referee apologised for his decision after the match.
2) Australia vs. Brazil- Brazil was awarded 25 free kicks and Australia was awarded 9. But if you saw the match there was no way that Australia played that rough and careless.
3) Australia vs. Croatia- that Croatian guy who got 3 yellow cards but still stayed on the field.
4) Australia vs. Italy- that last penalty goal shouldn't have been a penalty which cost the whole match

In every match Australia played there were these stupid decisions which disadvantaged Australia  :o

I was rooting for the Aussies, and am very disappointed for them. For the game to end on such a bogus penalty leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. But, if Neill had stayed on his feet I doubt there would've been a problem

Erm, painting Australia as some kind of one-sided officiating victim doesn't sit well with the facts.

Japan were robbed of a potentially match-deciding penalty. The crucial 2-2 goal against Croatia reeked off-side'ish. Mazeratti's red card, which severely handicapped Italy for 45 minutes, was a joke.

The penalty was a darn hard call. I don't envy the ref one bit. Probably would have called it myself.

Neill went down for a block but missed the ball and slid into Grosso's path. The Aussie had some weird-looking elbow movement, which may have enticed the Spanish ref to award the PK, but he was only trying to make room for the Italian to pass by him.

Fabio milked Neill's clumsiness to the best of his ability, letting his left foot drag on the defender's hip and using his right foot to take off for the dive. It doesn't get much more pro than that. No doubt Neill put the Italian at a disadvantage in his quest to reach the ball, but I also have no doubt that he could have continued.

Lucas Neill has some bad karma after breaking Carragher's leg some years ago, but I can't help feeling sorry for him. He was also let down by Bresciano who had a terrible stumble prior to the penalty. Bresciano wasn't even booked and could have taken a yellow, but I'm not even sure he was capable of making a free kick.

It was a dreary game and I was disappointed how little the Aussies did to push on with 11 versus 10. Way too few crosses into the box for instance. And a rather passive Hiddink at the bench, maybe cynically saving subs to outlast Italy in extra time.

The red card was not nearly as important or match affecting as the decisive goal in additional time. :p

Of course, Australia is not the only country to have decisions like these made against them. Grosso could have used his other leg to stop him from falling, he had plenty of space. but it's all part of the game I suppose.

Referees in this tournament are becoming more idiotic and useless as the tournament progresses...

They have the earpiece to communicate with each other, but still they make shocking decisions....

How in the world that could have been a penalty??? That has to be the "softest" penalty ever awarded by a referee!!! And to think that he MISSED a handball by an Italian player in the penalty box...

Yeah, but the Aussies were denied two clear penalties in that one, they were definitely the team that was penalised more.

Australia should and could have made the red card count in their favour. With an extra man on the field it's unforgivable to give away such a huge chance with 10 seconds to go. And as for penalties - they still have to be converted. Ask the Swiss about that. :p

It's unfortunate Australia got shanked by a bad decision, but almost every other team has experienced the same thing - it's nothing new, and there's no point in complaining about it after the damage has been done.

I guess the Italians see this as some sort of payback to Hiddink for what happened at the 2002 World Cup.
