Grass is Martina Hingis's best surface...????

Does this show how little they know about womens tennis or is there some truth in this....

McEnroe also thinks Mauresmo is a hard hitter like Venus and Maria. That's how much he understands from women's tennis.

I'll say again...McEnroe should NEVER, EVER be allowed to commentate on a women's match. :(

well she DID win wimbledon as a teenager.

so she's clearly not to shabby on grass.

she has a great all court game which does very well on grass. she's probably the best volleyer out there. her problem is that she doesn't have the big serve (which is a problem on all surfaces but I think its magnified on Grass) and there are other players who's games are improved TREMENDOUSLY on grass (see venus and sharapova, and lindsay when she is playing).

so while she plays very well on grass, she'll have trouble getting past some of the girls for whom grass is their nirvana.

I agree. It's not her BEST surface, but I personally enjoy watching her play on grass more than any other surface. Just from watching the last game of her first set vs. Savchuk, you see Hingis hit some excellent volleys, wicked angles, and move extremely well. I think, at least against the lower ranked players, grass accentuates Hingis' genius and allows her to be more creative.

and like they said her "weakness" (second serve) is "camouflaged" because her slower second serve doesn't really "sit up" to be punished like it was against eg Kim at the french...

He is not as bad as the radio Wimbledon commentators who said that Schnyder likes and plays well on grass :tape: the sound pretty clueless and unknowlegdable on it
