I think only Kim & Amelie have a real chance. ;)

Isn't it possible *not probable, yet still possible* that if everything fell into place for Sharapova she could be no.1 after Wimbledon?

If Mauresmo, Clijsters and Henin-Hardenne went out before the 4th round wouldn't Sharapova have a chance if she were to win?

Thanks.

justine is not a candidate for getting the no1. after wimbledon. if she does make it i'm really sorry for kim and momofans cause they obviously didn't have to cheer for them in the 2nd week :tape:
This summer justine will run them over and get the no1. ranking
i'm going with kim to be no1. after wimby

No, it's not possible.

Justine is #3 right now and she's a veeeery long shot.

if she wins she is #1 if both Mauresmo and Clijsters lose before semis.

Really?
I thought there's like 600 points difference between Justine & Kim, or was it before Wimby points came off? :o

I was sure Kim & Amelie needed to lose around 2nd round for Justine to have a chance. :o Thanks for clearing that up!!

Whatever, the fact IS that Justine has been the top player in 2006 so far. The overall ranking system is idiotic!

Without Wimbledon points :

1 Kim : 3065 (17 tourn.) - 7 tourn. wins
2 Amélie : 2994 (18 tourn.) - 5 wins
3 Justine : 2603 (12 tourn.) - 4 wins

The difference isn't that big between the three. With a win of Justine she will be close to the number one spot.

But the difference is big if you have a look at the Race for the Championship. Justine has a big lead on Kuzn. If Justine stays healthy and plays at least 14 tournaments (including the US Open and the Masters) and performs normally she is going to be number one at the end of the year.

That is why we have the race- for results only including this year. The ranking system, however, deals with the past 52 weeks, in which Justine has not been the top player.

Uh, no. Justine is the top player in 2006, which is why she leads the RACE ranking. The "overall ranking system" takes in to consideration 52 weeks, and Justine has an early US Open loss on her record, and only ONE slam win. So, you can't say the system is stupid, because she hasn't undisputedly been the best player over the last 52 weeks.

Kim won LA, Stanford, Toronto, US Open, Hasselt, Warsaw - which is the 7th tourny?

I think Justine is out of the race now. Either Kim or Amélie will be number one!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but IMO only Kim
or Amélie can be the N°1 after Wimbledon.

Virtually, at this moment Kim is already the
N°1, but since there is never a ranking published
after the first week of a GS, Amélie remains the
official N°1 until the end of Wimbledon.

To stay at the top of the rankings next monday,
Amélie will have to win at least one more match
than Kim.

1 1 Amelie Mauresmo France 3306.00 0.00 19 1.00 1.00 314.00
2 2 Kim Clijsters Belgium 3159.00 0.00 18 88.00 42.00 96.00
3 3 Justine Henin-Hardenne Belgium 2603.00 0.00 13 195.00 0.00 2.00
4 4 Maria Sharapova Russia 2400.00 0.00 13 0.00 0.00 314.00

Points coming off in bold...current poinits in red

So..Justine really has no chance even if she wins and Maria beats Mauresmo. I think Kim has become #1 just by making the semi-final, even if Mauresmo makes the Final. If Kim beats Justine, and Maria beats Amelie...Kim is #1. If Justine beats Kim and Maria beats Amelie, Kim is #1. If Amelie wins the Final, Amelie is #1. Maria has no chance, but has an outside shot at #3 if Kim beats Justine...I think.
