As well as her singles defence, Venus lets on, she is very excited about the prospect of entering the mixed doubles, since she is apparently attempting to collect all the titles from all of the Grand Slams before calling it a day. She will not play women's doubles "because I only play with Serena", but says she has been approached by three males keen on partnering her.

"I really, really want to win the mixed here," she says. "I have kind of decided against Federer as my partner, I need to call Serena and ask what she thinks I should do." Last year, with Mark Knowles of the Bahamas, she won one round at Wimbledon, but claims it helped her become singles champion. "It made the world of difference to my game. I played mixed before I played Mary Pierce and, seriously, it changed my whole game. I got so much better."

This was in an tennis article where someone interviewed her at Wimbledon.!!!
OMG I SO HOPE VENUS AND ROGER PLAY!!!!!!!

Federer doesn't play doubles any more at all. Also, he's on record as saying this is his most difficult Wimbledon draw ever, so, I'm pretty sure he wants to stay focused on singles and hasn't even given a moment's thought to doubles of any sort.

But it's a nice little fantasy for the fans I guress.

True statement. Most top players don't play doubles in slams. That makes it even more ludicrous to think that Federer is panting to play mixed with Venus or anyone else.

Federer played doubles three times this year wtih Yves Allegro.... presumably for Davis Cup practice.

I've never known playing dubs to affect any sort of life supporting system. I can't see how not playing doubles would affect either of them biologically.

Federer would do it. He admires Venus' game. He just really isn't a great doubles player though. Venus won with Gimblestob though so she can make anything happen in mixed. Federer would be the most focused on winning the mixed because he would have to try harder at that than in singles.

Please stop getting your panties in a wad and there is no need to misconstrue what others said. I haven't read anywhere that Federer is begging Venus to play mixed. The reference was done as a "tongue in cheek" and we got it, therefore nothing more to see here, move along.

Are you serious? The mixed means absolutely nothing to Roger for a start. And then to say he would put mixed as a priority over singles in terms of his focus? Absolutely not.

About that...Federer has only lost to one player of his generation at Wimbledon. If Federer beats Gasquet, then Wimbledon should just give him the trophy. He won't lose. That means Federer can focus on other things like adding some other titles of worth to his catalog.
Who knows what will happen when Federer gets up to Sampras numbers. One mixed doubles title could be the difference between them.

It's not about that. The things that Federer has to work the hardest on, he focuses on the most. It's tougher for him to win the French Open than any other slam. That's the slam he's most focused on. It's tougher for him to win a doubles title than a singles title. He''ll focus on it but it doesn't make it a priority. He'll take in more critique from people on doubles than in singles.
Federer is so good on grass in singles, that the only opponent Federer is really fighting is himself and his past results there. That's scary.
I wonder how he figures out what year he played the best in. I truly can't figure that out.

Roger doesn't give a care about the mixed doubles. He is the DEFENDING champion of singles. You got to be a fool if you really think that he is more into the mixed doubles then he is defending his SINGLES title. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

Venus and her witty remarks weren't supposed to be taken literally.

Why not? I'm sure like Venus he has dreams of acquiring every slam in singles, doubles, and mixed.
He's going to have to find a way to beat Nadal. It's going to come from continuing to develop his game. Since Nadal is doing that by playing some doubles himself, it seems pretty rational for Federer to do the same.

How was your late Saturday night Els Callens research? Did you find what you were looking for? :tape:

BTW Federer is too much for Venus, i think he would probably play Hingis first, after all they have teamed up to win on Hopman Cup.
Blake would be a great partner for Venus.
Venus-Blake vs Hingis-Federer can you imagine? @Hopman Cup 2007 :p

Why not? It's quite simply really. He would rather OWN another singles title than a doubles title. This is Wimbledon. Roger is the defending champ. It rains in Wimbledon. Rain changes time schedules. Simply put, he needs to focus on beating 7 people to retain his SINGLES title. Roger is not going to put his doubles game as a priority over some bullshit doubles tournament. Hahahaha.. lol. He may play but singles will be his TOP PRIORITY. Not doubles like u seem to think.

Playing a grass court doubles match is NOT going to help him to beat Nadal.. a CLAY COURTER. Hahahahah. Nadal could use some doubles in his game because he has none of the stuff in his arsenal. Fed is another story. They are not the same people and their styles are different.

I had to go to work at 6:am so after my last post I went to sleep. I will continue to research more on the "grass court specialist like ELS Callens".
