Just saw that Anastasia Myskina's performance today at Eastbourne made it the 15th tourament this year to see at least a Russian finalist.

That is astounding considering the year is just heading in the half-way mark and with so many big events on the way.

But just wondering, is this a record already for Russian tennis at this stage of the year?

It's a record for this part of the year as far as I know. It took until the USO in '04 for there to be 15 tournaments with at least one Russian finalist.

I think it's the 16th Russian finalist.

Finals Or Titles
Petrova: Doha, Amelia Island, Charleston, Berlin.
Kuznetsova: Miami, Warsaw, Roland Garros.
Sharapova: Dubai, Indian Wells, Miami.
Dementieva: Tokyo, Indian Wells.
Safina: Rome, 's-Hertogenbosch.
Myskina: Instanbul, Eastbourne.

Ops, perhaps Myskina was indeed the 15th Russian finalist and Safina the 16th? Well, that doesn't matter.

The Russians have won 6 out of 14 possible tournaments, which is not the best, but still a good stat. But Petrova alone is responsible for 4 of those. She's 4-0 in finals this year, that's mighty good for someone who until had no titles until the end of last year. She's also the only Russian to have beat non-Russians in finals, all others succumbed when not facing a compatriot. :p
