Currently, without Wimbledon, the top ten looks like this:

Amelie Mauresmo--2966
Kim Clijsters--2896
Justine Henin-Hardenne--2628
Maria Sharapova--2086
Nadia Petrova--2134
Lindsay Davenport--1588
Svetlana Kuznetsova--1791
Elena Dementieva--1860
Mary Pierce--1416
Patty Schnyder--1753

Anastasia Myskina--1419
Venus Williams--720:eek::eek::eek:
Nicole Vaidisova--1339
Martina Hingis--1334

So wow...a few things jump out at me here:

1. If Venus doesn't make the semi-finals, she will probably be ranked outside the top twenty:eek:   ! Consider she must beat Mauresmo to get to the semis. While obviously she can beat Mauresmo, she could also lose. It's not a guaranteed victory by any means. But I want an American up there, so go Vee...

2. Pierce is out of the top ten. Myskina, Vaidisova and Hingis are all fighting for that spot. Venus could technically get it if she won the tournament, Myskina lost first round, and Vaidisova and Hingis fell before round 3, but I don't see that happening. Hingis and Vaidisova need to make the quarters to reach the top ten, but also need to go two rounds further than Myskina.
3. If Hingis and Vaidisova make the semi-finals, as long as Myskina is not in the semis as well, Hingis and Vaidisova will be top ten, with Pierce, Davenport and Myskina falling out.

4. Davenport is safe in the top ten unless 2 of the 3 happen: Hingis makes the semis, Vaidisova makes the semis, Myskina makes the quarters.

5. Kim has a shot at the number one, but she must go probably two rounds further than Mauresmo to get to no. 1.

6. Justine has an outside chance at no. 1, but will probably have to win the tournament to get there.

So, what is the top ten going to look like post Wimbledon? I say:

1. Kim Clijsters
2. Amelie Mauresmo
3. Justine Henin-Hardenne
4. Maria Sharapova
5. Nadia Petrova
6. Elena Dementieva
7. Svetlana Kuznetsova
8. Nicole Vaidisova
9. Patty Schnyder
10. Martina Hingis

Although I picked Venus to win in the Tennis4you prediction game I am having second thoughts. I am having my doubts that she will win this year to make it back to back titles. She suprised me last year though, if I recall correctly she was not playing much before the tourney started.

OH, I guess why I said that was to back up the statement you made about Venus dropping in the rankings. I think she is going to feel some serious ranking heat after this tournament. I want to see her back on top of her game, but if she is not careful she will be joining her sister in the world of "not in the top 20".

I hoe Vee wins and LenaD gets to the semi final beating Sharapova in the quaters she deserves it after her bad run of form lately which would prob put her into top 5 above Nadia

Euh, I thought that without Wimbledon, Kim still had 3000+ points, and was number 1?

There's now a three-way fight for no.1 at Wimbledon. If you take Wim points off from last year the possible points for each round are:

1R 2R 3R 4R QF SF RU W
AM 2994 3030 3054 3088 3166 3306 3484 3692
KC 3105 3105 3125 3159 3237 3377 3555 3763
JH 2603 2639 2663 2697 2775 2915 3093 3301

As it stands Kim is in the best position.

Henin has an outside chance - she has to win it and hope Kim doesn't make SF.

Mauresmo has to reach the QF just to stay ahead of Kim. If Kim makes QF, Amelie needs a SF and so on (in other words she has to go one better than Kim)

your number for Mary is WRONG
she has 1810 points now
minus 174 points for Wimbledon QF
She will have 1636 points, ahead of Lindsay and in Top 10

please correct it

it'll be a very interesting shake up. specially with the summer hardcourt series right around the corner.
