Man who fought Playmate for inheritance dies

DALLAS, Texas (AP) -- E. Pierce Marshall, who feuded for years with former Playboy Playmate Anna Nicole Smith over his father's oil fortune, has died, his spokesman said Friday. He was 67.

Marshall died Tuesday evening in the Dallas area from a brief but aggressive infection, the family said in a written statement released through spokesman David Margulies. He declined to provide additional details.

Smith married Texas oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II in 1994, when she was 26 and he was 89. He died the following year.

Since then, E. Pierce Marshall had been locked in a legal battle over her entitlement to the estate.

The U.S. Supreme Court last month revived former Playboy Playmate Anna Nicole Smith's pursuit of her late husband's oil fortune, ruling last month that the one-time stripper deserves another day in court. (Full story)

The case has had twists and turns. Smith won a $474 million judgment, which was cut to about $89 million and eventually reduced to zero.

"Mr. Marshall leaves behind a legacy of being, first and foremost, a remarkable husband, father and grandfather, a successful business visionary and a man of unrivaled perseverance and principle," the Margulies statement said.

I totally understand why he fought that drugged out skank for the money. That man was as senile as they come and trust none of you would sit by if some slutty skank slithered up to your decrepid dad and wangled her way into his life for him to die months later and then think she's going to inherit his property as his widow. Even if it's just a house.....trust most of us would be upset and if we had the means to fight it we would just on principle alone.

I disagree !! I watched an entire segment on Nancy Grace on this subjuct and learned quite a bit. Of course women will be the harshest on Anna--- but what many don't know is that the old coot persued her. He practically stalked her before she gave him the time of day. Heck she deserves millions for that trying to make him hard if you asked me :tape:

That man was not senile. He knew perfectly well what he was doing. He knew he was probably going to die soon and so he spent his money on a trophy wife. HIS MONEY.

They had an arrangement and no one should interfere. Just because you don't approve doesn't mean it was wrong or that he was taken advantage of. She made it clear she was marrying him for his money and he had no problem with that. He made it clear he wanted a hot young thing. They used each other and that's all there is to it.

I hope she gets everything.

When people get real old they revert back to childhood and can become very babyish....ie they want what they want when they want it without thinking. I have no doubts he pursued her but she was the one who knew better and decided the money was worth having some old coot in a wheel chair slobber on you. For that I would fight her for the money....because if you knew some old man was lonely be his friend but don't take advantage.

Why didn't the old man just give her the money when he was alive? Oh I know because he knew she would be gone the next day. :bolt: If he was that right in his mind he knew his son would protest the will it just sounds like a final teenage FU to his other children for whatever reason to me.

If he wanted to give her money why didn't he give it to her when he was alive where no one could fight it. If he knew what he was doing then he knew that the will would be contested. I'm sure it was no secret that his children didn't approve. You want a trophy wife and you know she's only there for the money then why wasn't he doling it out to her while he was alive?

He wanted to keep her,
that's why.

Give her the money now and
suddenly, "Hoiney, I don't think this is
gonna work out between the both of us."

Then again, knowing how much she could possibly
stand to gain from his death and seeing how close
he was too is incentive to wait it out.

I think he was actually. Not to the tune of several hundred million obviously, but he definitely spoiled her. He constantly bought her dresses worth thousands of dollars, bought her trips/cars/jewelry, etc etc.

She's a drugged out gold digger and what she did was wrong. Nobody's arguing that. They had an agreement though that she would get the money when he died. LEGALLY, she's entitled to it. This man's son is just pissed off that his father chose a stripper over him.

There's a reason scam artist go after the elderly. It's because they are easy marks and way more vulnerable than the majority. Clearly the court felt he was not in a position to be of sound mind that's why they ruled she got zero. Honestly if it wasn't for the fact that it would be taking a right away from them after they already had it....I could see the need to treat the elderly like children in that you can't make a binding contract with them without a corroberating signiture. That's ageism but it's true. I've watched my mom's reasoning abilities wane as she gets older. We already know when the time comes we will have to hide her car keys because there will be no reasoning with her. This man could barely wipe his ass from the looks of him but he was suppose to be of sound mind to decide who was appropriate to be his wife and have his estate? :scared:

oh please, I would dog her if she was a church girl. I don't care that she was a stripper or a playboy playmate. You can believe she played hard to get but really if an dirty old man flirted with anyone with any decency they would've said thanks but no thanks.
