ana could meet safina in the 3rd round and mauresmo in the 4th. i suppose she should be able to defend her points and let's hope she can get even further.

I`m pleased with draw, but Ana must give 100% in every game and stay focused.

Doubles 1st round: Jankovic/Krizan - Ivanovic/Kirilenko

Nice draw :yeah: Gagliardi and Domachowska/Borwell are definitly winnable but Ana and Jelena fan is right, Anci has to stay focused and not underestimate too much her opponents. Ajde Ana! :bounce: Best of luck :rocker: :rocker2:
As for doubles,I also like this draw.Jeca/Tina had a pretty nice tournament in Rosmalen but Ana/Makiri seem to be in an even better shape :bounce: I like both teams so I'll be happy whoever wins anyway :D

What is Safina's record on grass? Hopefully itís not her best surface and if she matches up against her she can advance. Although she is likely to play the World No.1 in Mauresmo in the fourth round I donít think itís a bad draw as she has fared well against her in the past.

her draw is the best we expect. Safina is not a tough opponent for 3rd round. hopefully Ana can manage it and meet Amelie again. lol what a rival

Not a bad draw, could have been better, but not bad. Ana should come through against Dinara, then I really hope she can beat Amelie and get to the quarters here. It would be great to see her make a huge run finally!!!! I am so sick of these quarterfinal appearances, but a quarterfinal at Wimby would be okay for me.

Are we talking about Dinara who plays in final tommorow?
Or we talking about Dinara who beat Ana easily laat time?
Or we talking about Dinara, Russian in third round and Ana
"positive" record in those?
First time im not positive about her chances before tournament.
Hope she proves me wrong. And her draw is bad as RG draw. Why she
did not had this draw at RG and RG draw here?

I agree. I was extremely positive before RG, I was sure she'd meet Justine in 4R, thought she might even beat her, but look what happened.

The thing is, I'm still pretty positive about her chances against Amelie in 4R, if they both get there. But I don't see Ana getting there, to be honest. Still, everything's possible. We'll see.

Yeh I'd be confident if she is to come up against Mauresmo. But cmon, have confidence in her that she'll make the 4th Round! :)

She performed well at the Ordina Open in both singles and doubles, so I donít see any reason why she shouldnít at least make it this far.

Ana :woohoo:
Closed it on an ace 4-6 7-6 6-1 and to think I had very little hope after the first and then 2-4 in the 2nd...
Check out the stats, she totally outclassed Dinara but I'm pretty sure she was off today, anyone who saw it can clarify that for me?

Nine pretty much only shows men's matches, I think they should show mostly men one day and mostly women the next, but that will never happen! At least they show Masha!

Unfortunately Mauresmo. :(

But if she plays like she did during the last two sets, then she's in with a great shot. She matches up pretty well against Mauresmo, so I wouldn't put it past her to move into the Quarters. She was on fire during sets 2 and three; her forehand was just about as good as I can remember. She drilled so many winners down the line, and the power of it was just remarkable. Completely blew Safina off the court really, she had no answers to her power and precision. She served better as the game wore on, and her returning of serve was excellent too, hitting 5 winners off the return alone.

Seems to be that the girls that suck in their doubles first round and lose badly, come out and blast there next singles match, Ana, Ai, Dani!

At least getting Momo is better then having Masha, but it would have been nice to have Elena!
I'm sure Ana can win that one if she plays her best and stays focused, or at least make it close!
But remember, Momo has to get past Pratt first, there might be a, uhm, upset, um! :tape:

Great match. End of second set and begining of third was fantastic, and the finish of third is great, thou it must be said that Safina than just started playing awfull.

Well done Ana. Great comeback. :bounce: Russian curse is over for Ana. Is she back in top20?

It depends on how venus plays. If Venus and Ana get to same stage Ana will be ahead of her, so if Venus losses today or the next match Ana is in Top 20, otherwise she needs one more win. I think

Great result for Ana ... what is spooky though was that her final set was practically in sync with Tatiana Perebiynis' doubles match. They both won their games at practically the same times and won their matches at exactly the same time .... :scared: spooky

The first set and a half was just frustrating. Dinara was playing very solid tennis, and Ana was rushing it way too much, and she just couldn't keep her focus enough to finish off points. Many times she would set up the point perfectly and then just made a foolish error in the end. But at 2-4 it all changed, first she held her serve and then played a breathtaking game to break Dinara, and it all just come together. She really started dominating the rallies, the forehand was on fire and the backhand became a weapon too. By that time it was obvious that Dinara was tiring because she had covered a lot of ground and got a lot of balls earlier in the match, and the rest was just a formality for Ana.

The best thing is not that she won but the fact that she won after being down 3:6 2:4. She didn't give up and fought back. Maybe 'old' Ana who was mentally very tough is on her way back :yeah:
And I think she lost some weight, it's another good sign ;)

It just unbelievable chance to reach Wimbledon Semis! Who knows maybe her best ever! She has definitely the game to take Mauresmo out as she proved it twice :p On the side note Momo lost last week to Dechy (ouch! :tape: ) so it's even more possible. Then definitely she can win against the likes of Jelena or Nastya (nice revenge for RG it would be! ). Ana pls do it! Just grab this chance that is offered to you!

I began watching at 3:6, 2:4..I was so happy she could pull it off. I knew if she won that second set she would win the match.

There was this one shot that was amazing, where she ripped this awesome forehand cross court, it was perhaps the fastest forehand i've ever seen in women's tennis.

Typical lost set from Ana. Unforced error after unforced error. She doesnít have any patience, and goes for too much off the return of serve. She needs to get into the point before trying to blast winners. Not looking good.

She can't just disappear for set and a half like this and expect to turn it around. It worked against Safina, but Amelie is in a different league. It's frustrating that she missed those BPs in the last game, but there's nothing that can be done now.

She will start working with a new coach after Wimbledon and hopefully he will help her to bring her game to a new level.

Fourth round (Monday 3rd July)

- ANA IVANOVIC [19] lt. AM…LIE MAURESMO [1], 3-6 4-6

I watched this match hoping to be amazed by Ana, who had beaten Mauresmo at the French Open 2005 and Sydney 2006. But as in the other two times I've seen Ana play (qf French Open 2005 and 3r Wimbledon 2005), she was well below par.

Ana hit some nice forehands and even some volley-winners, but with too many errors, and a distinct lack of the spreading rallies that make me think of her as a potential candidate for my Eternal Fanship.

First Set:
IVANOVIC _* *___*_ 3
MAURESMO * * *@* * 6

The match started at 16:11 BST.

Mauresmo serving 0-0: Ana hit a backhand pass-winner down the line on the first point, but couldn't stop Mauresmo holding to 30.

Ana serving 0-1: Held to love with a lovely backhand volley-winner and an ace down the middle.

Mauresmo serving 1-1: Ana hit a forehand volley-winner but couldn't stop Mauresmo holding to 30 again.

Ana serving 1-2: Held to 30 with two aces, but a wild error and a crosscourt backhand pass-winner from Mauresmo may be signs of bad things to come.

Mauresmo serving 2-2: Ana hit a crosscourt backhand pass-winner at 40/0, but some wild returns helped Mauresmo to hold to 15.

Ana serving 2-3: Broken to 15 with four unforced errors. John Barrett said Ana's forehand-grip isn't conducive to dealing with low balls.

Mauresmo serving 4-2: Ana forehand volley-winner. 0/15. Big serving. 40/15. Double fault. 40/30. Ana crosscourt forehand return-winner. 40/40. Ana missed two returns.

Ana has an unorthodox return-stance for second serves: almost side-on as she waits, then she squares up to hit it.

Ana serving to stay in the first set at 2-5: Ana netted an easy backhand - possibly distracted by a mobile phone. 0/15. Body-jamming service-winner. 15/15. Service-winner. 30/15. Mauresmo forehand smash-winner. 30/30. Ana forehand just long. 30/40 (SP). Mauresmo forehand just long. 40/40. Some big forehands by Ana eventually forced Mauresmo to earth a forehand. Ad Ana. Service-winner.

Mauresmo serving for the first set at 5-3: Mauresmo forehand smash-winner. 15/0. Service-winner. 30/0. Ana netted a forehand return. 40/0 (3 SPs). Mauresmo forehand wide (forced by width). 40/15. Service-winner. Mauresmo won the first set 6-3 at 16:42.

John Barrett added insult to injury by dismissing Ana's victory at Sydney as a "hiccup" for Mauresmo. :fiery:

Second Set:
IVANOVIC *___*__@*_ 4
MAURESMO _*@* *@__* 6

Ana serving 0-0: Ana held to love with some big serving and a lovely crosscourt forehand winner.

Mauresmo serving 0-1: A big return forced Mauresmo to hit a forehand long. 0/15. Double fault. 0/30. Ana sprayed a wild crosscourt forehand pass wide. 15/30. Ana hit a forehand wide and made as if to throw her racket. 30/30. Ana netted a forehand. 40/30. Service-winner.

What a shame. If Ana could have broken there, it could have turned this match.

Ana serving 1-1: Mauresmo hit an error-forcing lob and a forehand volley-winner to make it 15/30. Double fault. 15/40 (2 BPs). Ana saved the first with a service-winner. 30/40 (BP). Ana hit a wild forehand long to put Mauresmo a set and a break up.

Well, it doesn't look like I'll have to worry about running out of video now. :o

Mauresmo serving 2-1: Ana really went off the boil with a couple of errors, and Mauresmo held to love with a sliced backhand winner down the line and a dead netcord-winner.

The commentators said Ana was too one-dimensional; they basically said she had no Plan B other than to hit harder.

Ana serving 1-3: Ana backhand long. 0/15. Ace down the middle. 15/15. Ana big forehand winner down the line. 30/15. Service-winner. 40/15. Double fault. 40/30. Mauresmo netted a backhand.

Mauresmo serving 4-1: Ace out wide. 15/0. Ana hit a big, error-forcing forehand - good footwork to get around the ball too. 15/15. But Ana looked very leaden-footed as she netted a forehand. 30/15. Service-winner. Ana yelled something in Serbian. 40/15. Ana netted a forehand and kicked the ball into the net in frustration.

Ana serving 2-4: Errors. 30/15. Mauresmo crosscourt forehand pass-winner - "recovery-time is not quick enough" [Virginia Wade]. 30/30. Ana slapped a wild forehand into the net. 30/40 (BP). Mauresmo hit a stunning backhand winner down the line, right in the corner.

Mauresmo serving for the match at 5-2: Mauresmo forehand smash-winner. 15/0. Double fault. 15/15. Ana blocked a forehand return-winner down the line. 15/30. Mauresmo forehand long. 15/40 (2 BPs). Service-winner. 30/40. Ana crosscourt forehand pass-winner.

Ana serving to stay in the match at 3-5: Ana came to the net, forcing Mauresmo to hit a forehand lob long. 15/0. Ana forehand smash-winner. "She's suddenly timing the ball 100% better" [Virginia Wade]. 30/0. Service-winner. 40/0. Ana came to the net and hit an error-forcing crosscourt forehand.

Is this to be another of Mauresmo's famous chokes? Whatever doubts she had at 5-2 will be doubled at 5-4.

Mauresmo serving for the match at 5-4: Serve out wide + forehand volley-winner. 15/0. Mauresmo netted a forehand. 15/15. Mauresmo error. 15/30. Ana forehand return long. 30/30. Mauresmo backhand wide - "very choky" [John Barrett]. 30/40 (BP). Ana netted a backhand return. 40/40. Mauresmo forehand long. Ad Ana (BP #2). Service-winner. Deuce #2. Mauresmo backhand volley-winner. Ad Mauresmo (MP). Mauresmo served and volleyed, finishing dynamically with a forehand volley-winner. Mauresmo won 6-3 6-4 at 17:20.
